I don't know where to start...
Do NOT go to work for Knight at the Katy, TX terminal!!!
My dispatcher "Mike" was an incompetent liar. I was out for six weeks and documented the number of times he flat out lied. It wasn't because he was trying to screw me over (I don't think) but he just didn't have a clue what he was doing?? He would tell me loads were ready and I would drive to the shipper only to be told to come back tomorrow! There are too many stories to tell!!
Knight still owes me 7 full days of layover pay that I have filed an official complaint with the Texas Labor Board for unpaid wages. I did include documentation of E-mails between me and my, at the time, driver manager "Colby". He quit and the safety director "Kevin" says "anything that "Colby" told me is irrelevant because he doesn't work there anymore".
The miles sucked. I was out for six weeks. From Jan. 21 - March 08 and guess how many miles I got?? 8500!! PATHETIC!! The cpm is great but if no miles...no paycheck.
I did run into other drivers from different terminals and they seemed pretty happy. They do have new trucks and let you run in any area you like. If I was in another terminal with an honest dispatcher I would probably recommend Knight to other drivers. I was just unfortunate to join the Knight team in Katy, TX

She told me that any money you are owed for a trip other then miles must be given a p.o. number for and submitted with the trip and entered on the trip sheet. If not then you usually won't get paid for it. She has her dp
issue her p.o. for detention as something else like local hours.
She says at Knight no matter what anyone says, if it does not have a P.O. number payroll won't pay it. -
Just a follow-up for everyone on my complaint with the Texas Labor Board; they did receive my complaint form and have contacted Knight. The letter from the Labor Board said they would reach a decision by June 26, 2008. Knight is given 90 days to explain or justify why they are refusing to pay. Haha... good luck, I got BOL's, log books, E-mails, phone records, all the documentation!

It is now October of 2009,and we have'nt heard back from you. Is it safe to assume you lost? -
Knight will pay you detention and layovers, BUT, yes, you MUST have PO's, and to get them them, you MUST get your dispatcher to issue them.
I regularly get all different kinds (layover, detention, xtra stops, local, etc.) of extra pay, but sometimes it takes a few phone calls to get them Q'commed to me. It would be nice if it was totally automatic, but then, it would be nice if I could just get paid and not work at all.
Work WITH the system as it IS, and you will have less stress.
Just saying, that's all.JustSonny Thanks this. -
I am kinda happy I have a DM that does do this without much prodding.

A friend of mine had a case where she had a 1000 appt arrived 0930 and put on the dock. at 1200 she received a msg from CS that her appt had been switched to 1300. They loaded her at 1400 and she left at 1430, 4.5 hrs after orig appt and was never given the 2.5 hrs detention pay because they changed the appt in the middle of the evolution.
Her dp'r usually will just P.O detention as local hrs to avoid the hassle but for some reason she did not get paid for this one she suspects because it was their screw up and not the customers because knight knew of the appt change the day before but did not change the dp or send the new appt time till she got on the dock.
Layover should be P.O'd every 24 hrs and if your dm drags their feet they are trying to get out of paying it and you should contact the term mng and then PX home office if you are not get anywhere locally. -
i was with knight for 4yrs.first 3yrs were great then they lost there minds.i was told not to idol more then 10%.i then infromed my dm to kiss it and keep warm in winter.after awile i was given a truck that would not idol more them 5min and i couldnt bypass this truck comp like the last volvo.so i told the shop in carlisle were i was out of to fix it.joey the shop froman said they will not let him and that knight just dont care if i freeze as long as i save fuel.at this point i said "lets burn some knight fuel"i drove bt all the way home to nc to stay warm.when i made it as far as va dm called an asked who told me i could bt home.i told him that my frooze### did. so i quit after 4yrs.they at one time were great but now care nothing about a driver.
