Here's a heads up. If you drive OTR, you pretty much "live in the truck". Even if you have a regional run, you are lucky to get one day in 7 at "home", agreed? So you spend most your time "in the truck".

I've done "local" (gravel, end dump), and the only bennie was, maybe, 2 days off on the weekend. But to get the 2 days off, I had to piss off my boss-1 day was what he wanted, because, you know, truckin' is a competitive industry.

Would you rather have the "live in the truck" drivers be on welfare? Then you, with your great job, could pay for their life?

    ?????

Well in my case I get ample home time. Never more than 3 or 4 nights in the truck in a row. Always get a 34 minimum on the weekends. At one time Knight did this for us. The only problem is we were happy drivers and thought we had found a home. All of a sudden we spending EVERY weekend nursing a 400 mile load picked up on Friday and delivering Monday and no where near home. Now I work for a businessman that has no desire to steal from me. What a concept, theres plenty of companies out here like that and Knight isn't one of them.

As for the "live in the truck" drivers and would I want to pay welfare for them? No, but why are they selling themselves short and working for a junk company, hauling junk freight for almost no pay. I know five drivers on Schneiders IC choice program and they OWN HOMES.

To many, and yes I mean this IDIOTS, have the attitude of "well gee it pays the bills" These are the non self respecting individuals that drive freight rates down to near nothing and this RUINS QUALITY OF LIFE for professional drivers.

Knights a junk company but they have no shortage of people who are content "just gettin by in life" and that's a shame.

No matter what u tell people, they are going to go out and do it anyway, like the
Stevens drivers out of Dallas who try to tell you they are leasing a truck. They are just employees with no benefits paying for a truck and taking care of maintenence for the company. Really stupid.

Hello guys. I still have a valid class A CDL. I am attending a refresher course for 5 weeks and then am getting an OTR job. Last time I was a truck driver, I was constantly preoccupied with getting home every weekend to see my daughters. Now, they're all grown and living out of state. I am single--have been for years. I hate the town/state I live in--in Ohio and welcome the change of scenery--nothing to entice me to stick around here.

I am ready to go anywhere for weeks at a time and am looking forward to living in my truck, saving money, and spending my spaced-out home time visiting my wayward grown children. Do you think drivers, like me, who have no roots, no permanent home, no heart strings being pulled do well being out for weeks at a time seeing the country?? I think I will enjoy it--I enjoyed driving across the country and seeing the mountains and desert before.

Also, can i get feedback about Knight and their long hauls for OTR drivers? Am I a good candidate for this company? Can anyone suggest any better company for ambitious, adventurous OTR company drivers like me who are starting over?

    Thanks alot!! :biggrin_255:
