I have talked with over 100 BCO's and you are only the 2nd person that has said this. Most feel the rates on drop and hood are so low that they stay away. And if they aren't going to do it in regular basis then the extra percentage pays enough to get a trailer.

Maintenance on a trailer is small compared to the extra $10-$15k you could earn. Now I wouldn't buy one in the first year going in. You may learn of a good D&H location near your house and run that.

This is just a quick FYI with regards to owning a trailer. Last week, I did 2 loads, one from Brunswick, Ga. to Dallas, and a return load from Tyler, Tx. to Pompano Beach, fl. If I had my own trailer, the 2 loads would have paid me an additional $365.24 for the week. If I divide that by the billed miles for the two loads, it comes to an additional $.16 per mile. Of course, I just divided it by the loaded miles. If I add my deadhead miles, it comes to $.15 per mile, but there was little deadhead between the two loads.
I am actively searching for a trailer to buy that I can afford. As soon as I find one, I'm buying it.
I hope this helps a little in your figures.

On the LS forum, a BCO has an older 53 for sale. I've personally seen it and it's in decent shape for an older trailer. Nikmirbre or something to that effect in the for sale area

Nik is good people. If he's got a trailer for sale, I'd seriously consider it.

Thanks. I just got home and saw your posts. I PM'd him to ask about the trailer. Hopefully, he'll get back in touch with me soon.
