Congrats on taking that first step. As a BUSINESSMAN let me remind you, you don't need the best out there to get you started. Why buy a truck with a $1,400/mo. payment when you can buy a really good used one for $700-900/mo? Start off slow so you don't take on a whole bunch of debt while you learn the system. Network with BCO's and Agents. Make friends who will show you the ropes. Despite what some say, this is a good place to be if you're self sufficient, have a good business mind, and aren't afraid to work.

This is so true. I wish I would have known that to start with. You would think with my experience, I would have figured it out, but I didn't. I have a high truck payment because I thought I needed something really nice. I have made really good money with LandStar, but had I known I didn't need an expensive truck to begin with, I would have been much farther ahead right now.
Good luck with your business. It really is a good place to be if you work hard and try.

Starting to get feedback from Patrick Manley at the background and orientation place in Grand Prairie TX.:)
Looked at some 2005-6 old Interstate Dist trucks at a place near Amarillo. They are $15-18000 so we wouldn't have payments.:) They are rattletraps but would make us money. We both like autos, and prefer Volvos, but can live with these if we don't find better.

If you look at my avatar picture, you'll see that I run an old Interstate truck. Mine is a 2007 780. Overall, I've been happy with the truck. It only had one driver assigned to it, and he took good care of it, as did the company.
The only suggestion I would make is to not get the VED-12 Volvo motor. Try to get one with a Cummins if you can. You'll probably save some money if you do. Lots of posts here on the VED-12 for you to see why i said that.

The one I am looking at is not an old interstate but is an isx.
    The interstates were fl Columbia's.
    Thanks for the info.
Nothing new on getting us set up,but you guys said it would take a while.
So what kind of van loads do most teams run inside of Landstar?

My wife got her Hzmat stuff started. I hit a speedbump with CA DMV problems. It is fixed but will take weeks to work its way to TX DPS.

    Getting closer :)
But now they are looking into my CA license that was suspended for a while. CA likes me now and even lowered my child support payments, so I could afford them. So hopefully landstar will be OK with that.
