I'll try and address some of what you have here. There is some cheap freight, No doubt. Imo you have to pick and choose what you will or will not haul. Sometimes to get from and area that is not "good you may have to take something less desirable to "move" so to speak. Or deadhead to some other point. Usually not a ridiculous amount.
Yes there are fees,Some of which I choose not to incur, some you just have to eat. Miles are off about 10% as most other companies.Nothing new here, just figure it in.
Yep some agents do use this practice,I don't like it either. But this is something you ask about when talking to them. You kinda get to know which ones do this.(Adding in FSC to load pay).
At this point we haven't had this happen(driving to a thats not there).
Detention pay- We ask about this up front. We've never had a problem getting it.:biggrin_25513:
I agree with you about the log department here.
We've never been treated rude by anyone at Landstar.
We don't use the load notify.
We have had the problem of being beat to the call on the boards,as you describe. I think the problem is some other agent is brokering it and its already gone when it gets posted by said other broker.(annoying I know).
In some areas, yes its as you say "like a hundred hungry dogs". But in this instance you look for load ahead of time,or have one set up before you leave. Not the day of.
We have had some loads cancel, but not alot. We found other loads to replace it.
I will say this, there is a practice I'm not fond of. The brokers with the Great loads. Call drivers they know and trust before putting them up.
Its not exactly fair to the newbies coming in. But life isn't fair.:biggrin_25521:

30% of the gross freight receipt can be advanced as soon as the agent gets your load in the computer.

Looks like I've posted to a dead issue here.:biggrin_25523: As it was debated in another thread.

I know that Landstar requires HazMat, but will they hire without it?
I had it for 6 years and just dropped it in January. Looking for a carrier to lease on with and hear good things about Landstar.......minus the above opinion of course.

Nope. You gotta have it, but you are not forced to ever use it. Its a small hurdle to go thru to be leased with them. My opinion of course.

The book test is the worst. When you do orientation you have to take pretty much the same test all over again for LS's file. But that one is open book.
Where you pick your own loads you don't ever have to use it if you don't want. But they want every body to have it because they had some problems in the past where load choices were real slim and some body took a HM load without the endorsement just to get out of the area. That didn't sit too well.
