What do you want to know?

I worked there for about a year and a half. The reason I quit had nothing to do with Landstar. I miss working there. They are a great company, staffed with a lot of great people that want to see you succeed. And you'll meet a lot of other great O/Os.
I quit because it was time to give up the OTR life and go local and be with my wife.

My husband has been with Landstar for a couple of yrs now. And we have'nt had any problems with them. Great company in our opinion. If you do go with them just be prepared to do it all yourselfs. (not saying you would'nt expect too). Just a few did'nt realize they we're on their own.

By that you mean Landstar does not hold your hand to drive your truck. YOU decide when and where to fuel to get the best prices. YOU decide when and for how long to go home. YOU decide what load you want to haul to where you want to go. etc etc
Landstar will give you as much support and help as they can, but they do not hold your hand to drive the truck. Lots of folks that only know training wheel companies cannot make it in an environment that requires some intelligent life behind the wheel.

Don't just tell them the good about Landstar!!! Tell them about how there hasn't been freight for chitt in the last two years. Tell them how 98% of every load that they see on that board goes to places that no one wants to go because you can't get out of them. Tell them how all the money they see on that board get's smashed by all there fee's and shorter than short mileage they are figured on to make the loads look sweet and how that the agents put the fuel surcharge into the rate to make the rate look acceptable. Tell them about how Landstar won't protect them when the dead head 300 miles to pick up a load that isn't there. Tell them how Landstar does not make the agents pay up the detention fee's they owe the driver. Tell them how the compliance department bugs the living chitt out of you and your Dr's for the nit picking paperwork. Tell them how rude some of the people are at Landstar when speaking with them. Tell them about how the load email notification boards are set up so that you can't put a date on them so you get 500 emails a day and your supposed to pull over or have them call your phone for each one of them. Tell them how it feels to sit in Dallas and when you see a load posted and you have the agents phone ringing in 30 seconds after the load is posted but you were beat and the load is no longer available. Tell them how it seems that decent freight is like a man throwing a steak in the midst of 100 waiting dogs. Not counting how it feels after countless times of agents calling you and telling you your load you won has been cancled and it's 11am in the morning and you have already delivered and all the meat has been thrown for the day. Tell them the whole package!!!

Do you need fuel money or can you use the comdata or something like it to charge against your pay?

This info is for my trainer he was thinking about getting his own truck and possibly leasing it on to landstar.

Once you've accepted the load, been assigned. You can get an advance on your comdata card. Yes it will come out of your load pay. I believe its 10% of the loads pay plus your fsc. You may pay with your own money. But you will need to submit a receipt. There will be a charge 1.75 to load the card.
