With your financial resources shouldn't you be looking to auctions for a trailer?

If its any consolation ..This is EXACTLY what happened to United Van Lines,Atlas and all the rest of the National Van lines. A lot of the drivers left after 07 and went with L.S after YEARS of being bedbuggers. Now all the Van Lines are BEGGING for veterans It's all we've known and it's hard, but good things will come!:biggrin_25514:

That is why i stand a better chance to go on my own.It is evident that Landstar does not want hard working old school truckers. They want the new, uninformed, over zelous, lazy compliant monkees. They can have them all..

I myself will find a broker or an agent who wants pure hard working old school hens like myself, with a get the job done kinda attitude.I will not allow Landstar nor anyone else tie me up like a Pretzel and treat me like a dumbed down LAZY ROBOTIC DRONE DRIVER...Not in this lifetime..!!!!!!!:biggrin_25512:.I have to much SELF RESPECT and INTEGRITY to be treated like that...

I don't know if I agree with all of that, but I do understand how you feel. It does some good things for the carrier that they can't buy: First there's compliance with HOS, and the elimination of many of the logbook dings that come with paper logbooks- the form and manner stuff. That's good for their CSA scores. Second, the GPS tracking and HOS feedback helps them on load planning. Then there's that critical event nonsense that they can go back to their insurance carrier, and claim to be proactive on it.

That stuff is what it is for them.

OTOH, it does limit one's ability to maximize the use of their hours to generate revenue. We've crossed keyboards on this a bit, and on the whole, I agree with you. Despite my posted opinion to the contrary. Got to say when my Qualcom crapped out a few weeks ago, I did enjoy the freedom of getting rid of the electronic babysitter. For a few days. If they are treating you as a "dumbed down lazy robotic drone driver," it's not because of the technology... that just makes it easier for them to do what they desire to do to you. That's a corporate mindset that exists despite the technology, and if it's become ingrained at Landstar then it's high time you left. The business aspect of it is that it allows the carrier to obtain higher equipment utilization rates- which isn't all that bad for a driver. Less sittin' around if it's done right.

Great Points. This is why i have a bit of ''fear''..I am thinking that the whole industry is going to go to this way of ''thinking'' and faze us old grunts out of the business..If that is truly the case then leaving Landstar would not be a good move. All i would be doing is going from the frying pan to the fire..

I am not in this to make a ''million''.I have money.I want FREEDOM.That's what i yearn for. This is the reason why i started driving many years ago.I loved the freedom to come and go as i please..Here at Landstar it is being taken away bit by bit..

This is why i am gaining insight on the whole authority..Will i truly have more FRREDOM and make a few pennies.?

Quite frankly no! I don't know how old you are but ya might have a few freedom years left but not much! That's what I miss about bedbugging too! It used to be awesome. You work your guts out then I'd hold up in the Marriott sometimes for two weeks and just sight see and hangout with ole friends in almost every state. The money was incredible, but you worked hard, the way I see it,most folks don't mind working hard if they know the $ is there at the end of the week. The problem with the mandates is these carriers don't want to fork over any more $ to drivers bc we are limited in what we can do now. Used too they'd work the #### out of ya bc they knew you were a work horse and they'd profit big time from it too.

Yup it's coming ..it's going to be a blanket rule! I'll keep truckin til they do,then it's goodbye Hazel!!:biggrin_25523:
