USA Landstar Straight Truck?

For the first time today, I saw a Straight Truck with a sleeper with the Landstar logo on it, headed east on I-10. I had never seen one and was wondering if this is some kind of Expidited division? Is this an O/O hauling limited loads or what? Thanks.

Landstar Express America, their expedited division. They have all sorts of equipment in this division, 1 ton cargo vans, Sprinter vans, all sizes of straight trucks. Mostly team ops.

They both ran solo, one guy and the other a girl.

They had to have a Qualcomm installed because that's how they get thier load info. They don't use the loadboard, but they said that LS is going to incorporate them into the loadboard next year.

If they are under 10,000 pounds Gross I think they don't have to keep DOT logs. (I think that's what they told me)

They were getting about 19 mpg.

Be nice to have a one Ton to get into and out of Cali more often to see my kids. I could park it and get around easier.

Just a thought right now.

Solo expedite is a tough road. MOST of the time you'll never get the good paying stuff because that requires team service for faster deliveries.

It would sure be nice to have an Extra van handy that is leased to LS to use to run into Cali and get around with while I was there. I mostly get in and out with long hauls. But if I could hang around a bit it would be nice.

One can never have too many options.

Saving on fuel with that type of vehicle is the only way to make a profit on loads that average around $1.40 per mile from what I've heard so far.

Lets not forget all of the fast food joints you can get in and out of too. Parking for an Expediter truck is a heck of a lot easier than a 53' Dry Van. I gotta figure out how to search for Expediter loads to see what they are doing.

LOL, wasn't me. I have been running NC->NJ mostly. Ran a load up to IN a few weeks back...nothing around New Orleans. With all the trucks that LS has, your chances of seeing me are like 1 in 5000 or something like that. I have a white 04 Columbia....pics to come in a couple of days after a wash.

Whats the current number of lease trucks? I was thinking they were around 9200 in April, but not all of those pull a van.
