Their data isn't real up to date. That I've seen any way. When my brother and I were trucking their site claimed we had two power units but only one driver. I was listed as the only driver even after he got a level 1 and was put out of service.

Your Factory Warranty until 500,000 should still be good. Other than that is the Warranty covering just drive train? Cause $1600 for a water pump and radiator and hoses and stuff like that can add up.
Plus keep an eye on your EGR on that year truck. See if the extended warranty coves that.

I pull their trailer for the 72%. But it's 72% of 98% if you check your contract.
FSC varies per customer. I've been getting up to .45 cents per mile. Some pay as little as .26 per mile.

LS will get you everything that you need to start. They don't provide truck insurance automatically. You need to ask for physical damage. It may be better to get your own. (Cheaper)

I pull their Step or Flatbed. I'm trying both to see which is better for getting loaded.
If you pull their DryBox there is no trailer charge. I pay $170 per week for the Step.

The 430 to 500 kit is going to cost you $ and Fuel. Does it have a sliding 5th wheel.

I have a 430 with 390's and a ten speed and if I go slow I get great mileage. That's going to be your biggest cost so go slow. You can save $ on fuel.

Hope it all works out for you.

I pull their trailer and get 65% of 100. The fuel surcharge on the load I am pulling right now is $.505 per mile. Just like Chiricahua said, it varies, but for the most part, it averages out to about $.40 per mile right now. They offer a discount on Fuel at virtually ALL truck stops...some as high as .06 per gallon and others as low as .02. They also have a deal setup with T/A that you pay .02 over the cost of the fuel...sometimes works out cheaper, sometimes it doesn't. I am happy with their fuel program. You will get a book that tells you every discount you get and where. Your truck will be fine. I have an 04 Columbia with a 14L Detroit, 10 spd and 3.70 rears. The rears are my only complaint, wish I woulda went with the 3.58. I like to haul light stuff so it would be fine for me. You will be just fine, just keep it at 65mph or less and you should see 7+ MPG. I paid for the 2year/200k warranty through SelecTrucks on my engine/Trans/Drives...something like $1,600 extra...but worth the extra couple of bucks a month. BTW, I put 5k down and have a $1,292 a month payment on a $48k truck that had 459,xxx on the odo when I bought through Freightliner.
Insurance Get your physical damage insurance through 1st Guard. They offer a discount to Landstar BCO's and I am paying $125 per month.http://fast234.com/
Landstar has your Liability coverage for $18.99 a month.
Even though they charge you for every little thing, it is all a business expense and worth it in my book.
Hope this helps. Good luck, you won't regret it.
    Oh yeah ONE BIG THING!!!
If the truck dealer will let you get the truck inspected for Landstar BEFORE you sign your life away, do it. You have to pay for it, but it would be done at an independent shop that might find issues with the truck that would need to be fixed before you buy.

Kewl on the 5th. They put one on mine or I wouldn't have got this truck. Insane that Swift had them with out one. The Dealer said it would cost him $800 to install it. Sounded like a personal problem to me. LOL

Duncan Freightliner, did good by me.

EGR Valve puts the unspent fuel that should come out the exhaust back in to be burned up. I have a couple of friends that have had problems with the EGR valve. I doubt they will cover it under an extended warranty but it couldn't hurt to ask. I believe they started putting them on the 2002 and up models but not sure on that year. My freinds have an 03 and an 04.

    I'll check out that site.

FYI, the lower your payment the easier it is to have more options at LS.
Mine is only $900. I've met some BCO's that have a $2500 truck note and a $700 trailer note.
They have to run all the time.
I'm in La Porte, Tx dropping today and I'll DH back to Pflugerville and won't run untill after the 8th of Jan.
Lower payment lets you build up a maintenance account. $15,000 is what I'm saving for. I already got 8 new Drives and my drive train is still under warranty.
Make yourself a business checking account with a business credit card. Pay yourself by the mile and Uncle Sam won't tax you twice when you spend your money on your truck. Lots of ways to do it but that's what I'm doing now untill I get my second LLC going. Then I'll lease the Truck and (Trailer later) back to my self.

LS offers a Business class after you've been with them for 90 days. They pay you $250 to attend. I recommend it.

thanks chiri, how long have you been with landstar? are you still driving that 01 freightliner thats in th bottom of your signature?

i check out land stars broker boards everyday, just to see what they got. do they only put just a limited amount on there for the public to see, or its pretty much everything they got... after you unload do you post your truck? or are you set up with a few brokers so they pretty much can keep you rollin...
well the boss has moved up his date from retiring to the beginning of march, not sure why he said something about some tag or sticker is good till march so he is going to get it till the end.. so i got some time to run to some other places to check on some trucks.. going to try and get to the 2 select trucks dealers in north carolina after christmas.. the one has a nice old penske lease truck i would like to check out.. stopping off in jackson in the morning to check there stuff out...
one more thing i wanted to know, the guy i run for he is a O/O has 7 trucks and he does not report to dac. on my app to landstar i put his place and business down... and put in his office number he won't be there but his wife is. how do they check on my recent job history if they do not report to dac. just a phone call to the office and talk to office lady. i talked to judy today and she said she has not heard anything yet. well i got to get rollin out so i can hit jackson and then home tommorrow night till after christmas....
