And if not I just pay for the fuel myself and will let Uncle Sam bite it.

I usually have a wait to get good freight out of SD.

Right now 8 loads listed coming out of ND for a Step. All listed as Flatbed loads. And 4 of those not available until after the 1st.

I thought "RIIIIIIIIIIGHT" as soon as I saw that post. The guy is probably like I was out of the Rockies. WAIT around on a load headed out. As soon as I headed home I would start looking. Even if I wasn't looking to load for a week or longer.

I don’t know how I hit the submit button twice, could someone delete the duplicate post. Thanks.

I usually stay for two to three weeks, and do just that. I often stay home for one to two weeks so it’s not that bad when I do come home.

I was wrong on the lease prices with LS a few post back.
It’s $170 per week for a Stepdeck and it’s $155 per week for a Flatbed.

The Stepdeck that I initially had got 6 new tires (2 were already new) and one light repaired when I got it. All I had to do was ask and LS approved it.

The Flatbed I now have had the right rear breaks replaced and the left mud flap.

That’s one good thing about leasing from LS. They fix what is broke. Keeps there safety rating great with the D.O.T.

I thought they were now charging a percentage for using a company trailer. Am I wrong?

They pay less percentage for pulling a company van. But charge a flat rate per week for flat and step.

How does landstar work there inspections? They pay for it if you pass but you pay if you fail? or am I mistaken? How much does the inspection cost?

Correct. The cost of inspection depends on location. They have approved centers in each state. You have to have your equipment inspected every 120 days.

I tried to get all of mine done at Sapp Brothers service centers. If they found a problem they would stop the inspection and inform you of the problem. You had the option to either fail, or have them fix the problem and then they would pass and LS would pay for it. Guess which option I always took?
Because if it fails you pay for that inspection, pay for the repairs and THEN pay for the second inspection. I've heard that TA and Petro shops are REALLY BAD about "making work" on these types of arrangements. I don't recommend them at all for the LS inspection.

man they stick you for the second inspection too! that figures. I'm trying to get started up on a shoestring budget, that would hurt me.

Does the landstar inspection cost more than a regular yearly

Same inspection and same price as a yrly. Just LS wants one done every 120.

I always did a very thorough pretrip before going for inspection. I rarely had any surprises that way.

They really aren’t’ sticking you for anything. It’s your truck and part of the O/O expenses. You can claim this. Also it helps keep you away from the scales and keeps you rolling. I get pulled into a scale very seldom.

Keep your truck running right and the inspections will always be free. Also look for a garage or truck repair shop like posted above that will work with you. It’s not that hard to find a mechanic that will work with you. Also it helps if you have the truck and trailer inspected at the same time.

They pay your own trailer or one that you lease 8% of the load. Your payment for the lease comes from this and it shows you how much more you are making by having your own trailer. You can haul their dry box for free.
