The stick it to ya comment was just joing around. although one would think if they pay for the inspection then they should pay for a passing inspection if it's the first or fifth...just an observation.

Do they have loads for curtain sides?

 

After what I have read here I am thinking about going to Landstar. I need to get some current experience first. I have seen on one of these discussions that there is a website where you can view some of the loads they carry. What is that address as I would like to look at those to decide for sure? I live in a somewhat remote area and want to see what load availability might be like in and out of here.

That lane is excellent for flatbeds. I'll check on drybox.

I carry 6 tarps, cause you can between $100 and $350 on a regular basis for tarping. And LS gets none of that. The truck gets it all.

I can't do two lumber tarps in 5-10 minutes but it is one of the easier freight to tarp.

 

I live in New Mexico about an hour west of Albuquerque. The recruiter sent me a sheet of loads to Albuquerque and from Albuquerque. From what she sent, it looked like I would have no problem getting home when I wanted or needed to but there was only one outbound load which could mean some serious deadheading to a load.

Also, from something that was just mentioned, can you haul a dry van load out and get a flatbed backhaul? Do they train for the flatbed side or do you have to come there with that knowledge? That could give me an idea about where I get my current experience. I am not sure I would want to do a flatbed all the time due to my age but the ability to do it, if needed, might be nice.

Albuquerque is not a great place for Flatbed loads for Landstar. LS doesn’t usually haul the cheap freight coming out of that area. I’m not sure what it’s like for a drybox.

You can set up with an Agent to drop your flatbed and haul a drybox. But you would have to get the drybox back to get your flatbed. Doesn’t happen to often from what I hear.

You can take a two-day securement class after you take orientation and they will let you pull a flatbed. But you will be limited to legal size loads for 6 months. Then you can upgrade to oversize.

www.Landstarbroker.com will let you see limited loads but you can’t see the pay that the loads offer. Just the location and the agents contact numbers. But you are free to call and ask the agent for the load info.

Weird, there are 31 Drybox loads in the state of Ohio. All going to Ga.
Only 2 loads listed for a drybox going from Ga back to Ohio.
Looks like the rough average for all the loads is 1.79.
Ohio seems to always be a great area for freight.

Only 7 loads in a 200-mile radius leaving Albuquerque. Rough average pay is 1.28. Looks like leaving Albuquerque and staying out for a while to make money is the way to go. Then get back home and stay for a while.

 

Everything I've heard so far sounds good.
My questions are about the HAZ-MAT endorsment. I've heard that Landstar requires it. Will they wave it? Their's is a true "no-force" dispatch system. Seeing as how loads are "picked & chosen" I'd opt to never choose an HM load.
