My questions are about the HAZ-MAT endorsment. I've heard that Landstar requires it.

They do

Will they wave it?

NO

Their's is a true "no-force" dispatch system. Seeing as how loads are "picked & chosen" I'd opt to never choose an HM load.

That is perfectly your choice, but you DO HAVE TO HAVE the endorsement. I've heard of LS threatening to drop/cancel a lease over the fact that a driver was refusing to renew his HM endorsement. When the gooberment changed the laws recently to have to do a back ground check a bunch of folks didn't want to go thru that mess.

They won't even accept the application untill you have the haz mat endorsment. I went and took the test today, now I have to go get figerprinted and get my background check done, before I can even submit the application.
And I found out you need an original birth certificate with the seal on it to take the haz mat test. I thought I was going to have to get mine from WI but I found it eventually, what sucked is I had to go to the test station twice because of it and I'm 45 minutes away.

Unless they changed their policy since I did mine they accepted the app. and started working on it. Just don't expect a lot of progress until the HM endorsement is gotten.

The top of one of the pages says... and I quote "All operators are required to have Hazardous Materials endorsement before qualification"

So I guess that could mean you can send it in. I had emailed recruiting and she told me as fallows

"Good morning, You need to show the qualification center that you are in the process of getting hazmat added. You would need a receipt showing you paid and have the process started. You do not need to wait for the completion of it before you can send in app."

I took the test today but didn't get any recept. Mabey I will get one when I go to have the fingerprinting done. I really wanted to get this app submitted today.

select trucks

you know medman once you get accepted to landstar. i did read some where they give some kind of incentive if you buy from select trucks. that way it could leave more cash on hand. just out down lowest amount of down payment. heck the one i was looking at needed ) down at 1200 a month for 48 months i beleave...

I'd rather pay cash. I try very hard to not finance anything. It's just giving away money

If I remember right I sent mine in with a note that I was working on it. They went ahead and started the processing and as soon as I had proof I had to send that into them.

the dept. of homeland security does the actual background check and sends you a clearance letter, then you get the endorsement. took 6 six weeks to get my letter... got my endorsement last april.

I figured they were getting 3-500 applications a day and probably have two chimps and a george burns look-a-like doing the processing.
