I pulled a load for Landstar in 2002 and thought I cut a fat hog. San Francisco to Orlando...with FSC to the truck (before all expenses) was $3200. sounds good I thought. Two days of waiting, $1200 in fuel, almost 4 days of travel in a rocket ship W9. So for the week 7yrs ago I made less than 2K. Come to find out that the expo freight I had on board was actually paying $14000 (yeah thats right)...once the agents/brokers/landstar/middlemen/scalpers and other neer do wells stuck their hands down my pants I did al the work and took a week and got about .15 on the dollar. Sounds like LS has really made headway. After I got rid of the truck and got my 1st Company check I asked How Much do I Have to Give Back and they just laughed. I still hate giving up my independence but its nice to make a living. Good Luck to those that still believe Landstar wants BCOs to succeed because there will always be more that believe and the top 5% will still be at the top (I wish it were me but did not happen!!)

Right. Always will be like that. I was grossing 8k and keeping 3900 per week and of course I was happy. Then in Feb of 09 shortly after they struck that deal with CH Robinson the same loads went down to 3000 per week keeping less than 1500. That was working 6 days of course but these were Govt loads and the price was set back in june of 08. I'm very sure that LS and the agents didn't give the Govt back 5k.
Like I said, as long as LS lets the drivers keep the Line Haul up it works. For me at least.
I't a shame that I can drive local for 2k per week hauling dirt and gravel and not make that OTR.

You can explain as much as you like to some O/O.They will never get it.At LANDSTAR they will never make real money. What is interesting, some of them are asking if they can gross $1500 a week. Can you imagine that?$1500 a week gross income for a O/O?Were this people are coming from?No wonder they won't make it for to long.I make a bet, this people will make better income at Mc Donald's.My conclusion is this:Its not agent or broker fault, this is the fault of the O/O or in the L/S situation, its the fault o BCO.I'm glad that I quit L/S and I will never haul load under their stupid blue big STAR.When I drive on the roads I see from time to time a L/S truck,I'm watching to see how is looking that stupid driver, hihhhoohiiii.Ironic, but true, and I'm not feeling bad for them.I been trying to explain to some of them that L/S its the most stupid thing a O/O could do.And some of them are still trying to say that freedom is NR. 1.YES,it is,especially, when I use to stay weeks at the time in a parking lot, trying to get another load, with no pay check and bills bigger and bigger. So I ask my self, were is that magic freedom?Pick your load if you can, because most of their loads are left over from other dedicated carriers. Most of L/S loads are junks loads and inconsistent, and so its the pay check. So,go ahead and call me what ever you want, but I just want to express my feeling(if is still a free country) and at the same time,I'm trying to educate some of the readers,my very bad experience with L/S with hope that other will read and don't have to face my horrific time at L/S.Thanks,and if you are a good person, you will do the same,in the name of GOD.Don't let other suffer.

I found it very interesting to read the other week when Landstar reported lower quarterly earnings, and claimed part of the reason as lower fuel surcharges. Meaning they were NOT passing on all of the fuel surcharge to the folks buying the fuel, but were keeping it as corporate revenue! Not a good sign.

It looks pretty apparent to me that drivers are starting to get the overall picture of Landstars status. At the least, that now is not the time to pull the Landstar loads.

But hey, the drivers would have never known unless they asked. Right!

Sorry to ask this question again but will Landstar let a driver with no OTR experience lease on with them. No one has really answered this for me. It says they want a year experience. I have 9 years driving tractor trailer pulling doubles all daycab. Will they take on someone like this if I purchased my own truck, or would It be better to get my own athourity and run loadboards. Lot of posts say it is hard to get good loads of boards as a new driver. Thanks again guys.

I dont think they,ll accept anyone without otr experience. I have my application in with them right now, im in the waiting for them to research my job history phase. They said they,d call me in 4 or 5 days to let me know what to do next. I just bought a 2002 Kenworth T2000 and need to get it on the road.

Good Luck Bouncer31 with Landstar, I hope everything goes well. I would eventually like to buy a used truck myself. No one wants to hire you without OTR experience though. I do not want to go over the road as a company driver as I get paid pretty good to be local. Average 900 to 1000 a week before taxes. I see the same sights every day, shift in the same spot every day. I like the local job but would like to see some of the country some day. Goal is to own my own truck and then a small fleet 5 to 10 trucks. Saving up an escrow account to start the first truck. Would like to accomplish all goals within next ten years. All depends on the economy.
