Some of the drivers that have been here for awhile get paid a higher percentage that the newer drivers. Also, the van division pays 65% for pulling company trailers, and 72% if you own your trailer.
Also, I believe some of the specialty haulers get a different percentage, but I'm not sure about that. They'll have to answer that one.

So on a load that's posted at $2800 for 1000 miles, what would be the driver take home pay? What would they most likely give you for the fuel?
-
If the load paid 2800 and it pay 800 for fuel you get 100% and 100 for tolls you get 100% and 100 lumper fee you get 100% that leaves 1800 at 65% w/o trailer and 72% with trailer = 1296 + 1000= 2296 net pay with trailer.

is this the same for LS approved carrier?? or only leased LS drivers
-
If a O/O can make that in two days what is the reason a person can't make in this business. I know everyday isn't the same and all loads don't pay the same but with good money management skills I think it is possible.
-
Sometimes one can get that rate but usually that kinda money is going to a bad area. Like last week I deadheaded 750 miles. Deadhead is all no pay and then theres the cost of fuel.
Don't get me wrong, a guy can make a living out here but usually it has a lot more to do with the luck or ability to take care of equipment. Many times, it's the repair costs that bury an O/O, not the willing to work. Fuel economy can also kill profit. So many trucks get 4-6 mpg. which really eat into profits. Not to mention cost of tires and DOT problems.
So it's not just money management but so many other skills as well. -
What do you guys think the average O/O running 2000 a week bring home at the end of the week?

Cetane+ Thanks this.

It DOES matter what mercer keeps...You better believe it matters.
See,Thats the problem with trucking......You guys see a rate and think, "Aw,I can do it for that"....not knowing that the Brokers are keeping as much as 50% of the Revenue.
I question EVERYTHING about a load...Brokers HATE it. They want the 'novice' carriers calling..Not the knowledgeable.
i tell Brokers all the time to Give me the Linehaul rate first......They say, "Well,Its 'all in' on the rate. THAT IS WHEN THEY HAVE THE UPPER HAND A SCREW YOU -
Mercer takes 25% for all loads and pays all permits and escorts. The percentage never changes for Mercer drivers.
I also think it doesn't matter what they keep. When I had my own authority, I didn't care what the broker kept. I cared what I made.
But in your thinking, sounds that you'd be ok with making a cheap rate as long as your getting most or all the money.
Also do you beleive that brokers have no expense or work in a load or getting customers?
