It hard to say because alot guys have no drive. One thing you need to remember is the one day for pickup and one to unload. I never try to load and unload in same day because of the unknown factor but have done it many time because the need to get the load. That being said every one is different I did very well out of Mi hauling loads to FL then FL to Canada loads going to Canada pay 3 to 5 a mile and not many will do them. But it made me alot of money. Same for TX to Canada. You are NOT going to make great money at Landstar van. You will do a lot better flat bed side of landstar but it is alot more work. Mercer drivers also do well on the flat side. Another thing with Landstar if you could run team they really get some good loads. There are allot of long haul loads that pay 2 plus a mile for teams only trucks. I left because of all the BS with logs truck inspections all the deductions you pay for everything I was making good money just cannot big brother on top of me. They begged me to come back and called me every month for 6 months to come back like i never quit under same lease and no ebor just could not do it. The biggest complain is the load broad has many loads that double and tripled brokered and you call some guy in a trailer park posting a load from CHR or some other load broad and landstar could stop this but they don't because all they care about is getting there 35% cut. The minute the person say hang on and I'll see if that load available he calling the other broker hang up. I have seen the same load on landstar broad paying dollar mile to two dollars a mile by three different landstar agents.

First of all...I dont Book cheap freight.......
Secondly, I know how brokerage departments(especially from carriers) like to 'get down'.
Yes,I know what MOST lanes pay..(I have my own customers too)
Dont come on here and insult my intelligence when ity comes to operations and Market rates........ Mercer is werll known to "offer" outside carriers with poor rates..And the worst part is, They dont even Negotiate the Rate!
Sorry..But I squeeze every drop of water out of a Broker before i am satisfied with the rate they offer....... -

I am trying to see if it's worth leaving a job that pay me around $60,000 to do city driving during the day or I can run line haul at night and make $75,000. Can I make more as a O/O at Landstar or should I stay put?

You will never never see that kind of money ever. Plus no work comp no unemployment no social security and no health care you looking at another 25000 you need to pay. Lucky to see 45000 a year before taxes.

I personally do very well with Mercer and did so when I had my own authority.
I gotta wonder if you think brokers take so much why don't you take their freight and why not become a broker.?
This being a landstar thread, I ask do you take their loads and do you feel the same about them? Does the landstar agents give you a higher percentage when you squeeze the water out of them? -
i have used Landstar on occasion in the last 10 years or so.......Same results,different brokerage.
i generally stay AWAY from brokers as often as I can........ My own customers are the folks making trucking reality....
A 'middleman' does nothing but hurt 1of2 parties...Sometimes both -
