I'm an owner operator and started leased to us xpress to get my otr experience, then I leased my truck to Crst Malone
And have been here for 4 months, I got a year otr experience and 4 months flatbed with a completely clean csa and mvr report, my question is would landstar be a good move and I've got money to buy a trailer now do I go with a 48 ft flatbed or a good stepdeck? My issue with Crst Malone is I like going to Texas some and been doing pretty good going there, but I sat 3 days trying to find a load I called agents way ahead of time letting them know I was gonna be in there area and on what day and l always try and reserve a load ahead of time, so I finally said f it and just drove home we'll I stopped at the TA in big spring and ran into three other Crst Malone o/o they all had loads from real close to wear I was at and from a Crst load agent I had been calling for three days trying to get out, I was respectful and always said thanks for looking, any way landstar's board had a lot more loads than Crst Malone, and I checked dat and get loaded and they all ha plenty of loads why for the whole state of Texas did Crst only have like 12 loads, also they say u can book outside loads if you need to that's bs I found a load of dat and the broker was willing to work with me and it was a good rate, I called my fleet manager and he said they don't allow that no more, so I'm moving to another company that offers more freight options than Crst, any advice, my tractor is a 99 freightliner century class, and it can pass a level 1 I do my own maintenance.

Assuming you only have CRST flatbed experience, and 4 months @ that…….winter is very slow for flatbed everywhere……especially texas!!!!

But to answer your questions, flat and step are both good...

Doesn't Landstar require 2 years OTR experience?

You'll normally find more freight available for flat vs step.

Grass is always greener on the otherside of the fence this time of the year. Usually white on my side of the fence till April.

You gotta have a year otr, I checked with them already, the reason I know they had more freight is I got a buddy that's at landstar he's been there like 20 years, he let me borrow his password so I could look, and if you been to Texas in the past year you know that it's booming right now, landstar had more loads, way more, and so did dat, and it pissed me off pretty bad that I had talked to Crst broker for 3 days lookin for anything, she is telling me no she ain't got nothing but she was loading the ##### out of these other trucks that were in the area.

I have been doing alright at Crst, even good sometimes, but I want to make as much as possible, if the loads are there I'm running hard so I can make more money, but if I have to sit bc I heard a lot of brokers don do business with Crst Malone, it's time to go
