I have been with Landstar for a year now and I am averaging about $2.10 a mile all-in. It is the slow season but once things pickup that rate will move up a little. The first 6 months or so with Landstar I tried keeping a dedicated triangle but that limited my rate since two legs of that triangle where always the same rate per mile (RPM). I just go where the money is now and do a lot better overall just be careful about dead areas.
After awhile you will start to make good contacts and know which agents to call or email before you head into any area. Also all the other Landstar BCO's I talk with out here always have been very helpful with giving me useful information.
Just approved at Landstar. Couple of questions....

Dewey, when you say $2.10 "all in" does that mean to the truck or gross?

saab1985 Thanks this.

How long did it take you to get approved? and what are the steps after you get approved
-
Takes a while to get approved, depends on your work history, and if you made sure all dates were right, I's were dotted and T's were crossed etc etc

Landstar does not pay for any empty or deadhead miles but sometimes you can get a broker to pay the fuel if they need you that bad.
