Does anyone know how long is the process of terminating a lease contract with Landstar? I am a Landstar BCO and I found something better, but I am nervous to have a long break between jobs... bills don't stop coming! I heard it can take 2 weeks or so... Thanks!

the better question is, what is the timeline for the new company. When i left LS I dropped off their trailer on a Friday and was at orientation for the next company that Monday. After termination you cant run their plates or use their insurance. They gave me a 2 day grace period at my request to get the truck to the next company. You will get final checks in the mail after returning everything including qualcome. The way they bill is odd. You will get a few detention checks and esrow refunds a month after you quit. Ive been with another carrier for 3 months and i just got a check for .19 cents. I got another for 340 for detention they just finished settling. Money may not be instant, but you can quit instantly. You can even over lap if you want to, just dont haul anything for the new company untill you terminate with LS.

I would suggest getting your own base plates. You then can get temporary bobtail insurance.

I dont know anyone who offers temp bobtail insurance if your not leased on or have your own authority. I couldn't find a way to get insurance between companies unless the last one is willing to let you use it a few extra days.

Exactly. You should have your own bobtail ins. What if your in Iowa and get fired or something stupid like that which happened to me. Or as you wish, to quit and move on you have it. And no matter who you lease onto you will be required to have it.

Go to the other orientation sign on and work a few weeks to see if you like it. If you like it cancel Landstar lease but if you don't then just continue on with Landstar like you never left. Landstar doesn't have to know everything.
