    I am.
at the last cabs meeting, i was the only one there still on paper.
i think they want everyone on electronics just like Big Brother.
been with lstr since june 2001.
    no moving violations ever.
csa score is 17 or so, thanks to a license plate light out on their trailer.
my logbook score they keep is 13. i understand we are allowed up to 40 before they demand you volunteer for an eobr.
i was off for 3 weeks, sent my logs in by dctscan from my home lap.
called into logs to verify they got them before i went back out.
i got someone in the log dept i had never had before. i think it was tesse.
she went####### on me not sending my logs in for every 13 days.
i always do it that way. most of the logs were just off duty anyways.
told me i had to volunteer then and there for an eobr, or else if i had any more log violations at a DOT stop, or didnt turn my logs every 13 days, then i would have to BUY a freakin' eobr for $800... do u think lstr pays $800 for one of those ? i doubt it.
    XXXXXXXXX
so i ask to speak with the supervisor and talked to her.
she told me it was law that all carriers would be eobr by 2016. not true.
ooida said it is a proposed law.
ooida has a link to submit comments on the law on their website if you want to weigh in to your local law maker.
so i ask for two weeks to think about it.
i called her back and she basically said i was on 'their list' now and any more infractions i would have to get an eobr.
i called mercer and liked them, and the guy said they dont have any requirements to have an eobr, plus they have ones available that are much less intrusive than the eobr that lstr is pushing. like it doesnt hook to the ship's computer and it uses a smart phone to transmit the log. but i dont have a trailer so it makes jumping a two step process.
so i am trying to work my way up the chain of command there at corp to see if i can get a little satisfaction for an 'ole timer.
i sure dont want to pay for one, and i dont want one in the truck until it is the LAW !

Go Get yourself a Trailer....(GET OUT OF THE HABIT OF LEASING YOUR EQUIPMENT ON TO PEOPLE)

Are you an owner-operator with pride? Lets start acting like it.

Forget these childish games that these carriers play with you guys.....

Go Get yourself a Trailer...Get your operating authority and start running your show as he way owner-operators are supposed to

Too Many Guys "think" They are Owner-operators when they Lease their trucks on to People.....(They still control you to an extent)

Which In Turn the Reasopn why the OP is having issues with their Log dept..

this Topic shouldn't even be an issue......Best of luck to you my Friend,

    I have thought about it.
for one thing, i am not a "paper work" kind of guy. i know there are companys that will manage your own authority for you. i could do it but it seems to me to be a lot of work.
second, i worked for a lady for a while that had her own authority. one of those deals where i paid a monthly flat rate for her authority and base insurance. the loads i got thru her or off the dat or truckstop.com were bottom of the barrel and i had to wait like 6 weeks or more to get paid. that sucked.
lstr freight is really pretty good, even with their big chunk they take off the top.
and if they pass the eobr law, we will all be forced to have one.
and once they do that. they will be handing speeding tickets based on your ship's computer and the gps, i think it will only be time.
and be one step closer to getting chipped in our forehead.
    long live cliven bundy.

Stayin Back is right. You need your own authority, especially if youre an older driver. As for the paperwork, that's what accountants and book keepers are for (Just make sure you scrutinize them carefully). True, will be more expense, but will be more pay as well, not to mention, then you set your OWN Policies. Who better than you, would know how You need to operate? That in itself should be all the motivation anyone needs to get their own authority.

I have a company I can run under my own authority with, they have the freight and book my loads and pay me every week for BOLs turned in the week before and I can lease or lease to own a brand new trailer from them. For this I get 90% and the loads average $2.10-$2.50 a mile. I chose where I want to run and when.
Does this sound like a good solution offering the best of both worlds?

If it was that easy..everyone would be doing that.

Of Course your really not going to succeed sitting in your office picking n choosing from loadboards..

Being an independent motor carrier is WORK,

This is why some drivers just stay drivers, They cant handle the responsibilities of being in business......

im assuming its probably your best bet is to stay leased on somewhere, Im Getting the Vibe your not interested in doing Paperwork, Acquiring Customers, And all the other Necessary duties a Motor Carrier must do

It MAY work... Not for me though, i personally would stil feel a Bit uncomfortable KNOWING others are involved with my operation..(Hence this company booking freight for you)

Are they truly being honest with you on freight revenues? How will you ever know? And If they are 100% honest....what BENEFIT to them is this? They make 10% on THEIR freight?

Seems a lil' weird unless they are having trouble moving it themselves
