Canada HELP! BCO First time to Deep North!

Yeah, crossing provincial borders is pretty much like a state line. At most you might encounter a weigh scale shortly after you cross. However if you are talking about crossing from a U.S. state into a Canadian province then oh yeah, bring all the documentation you have.

I can't help with directions and truck stops as I am Ontario/Quebec only. You might try the Canadian forum of this board, there are lots of westerners on there and most are helpful.

Hopefully your truck and trailer are legal to go in. The axle weights are less also. The scale house will make sure you have special insurance to drive in Canada and you'll have to buy it on the spot. I'm assuming your going to the oil field? Wild place. Stock up on food! Got a passport? Have a criminal record? If so you may be turned away. Do you have an agent setup for the paperwork to bring the freight in?

 

Actually as long as you don't have a spread axle you can go heavier in Canada. About 37,500 on a set of tandems. Have you decided where you are crossing? I'm assuming it will be either Emerson, MB; North Portal, SK; or Coutts, AB. Either way plenty of truck stops and good roads to Edmonton.

 

Gps will take you up the big hill in Edmonton city centre.

Like San Francisco then turns into Seymour Indiana once you get up there.

I usually just hang out in Calgary go to the Marlboro mall for the day go in at night.

Haven't been up there since winter before last.
Been awhile.

 

If you are going to the oil field Fort McMurrey or whatever it's called get permission to spend the night there and get a meal ticket. The cafeteria is the most unbelievable buffet you will ever experience. Make sure you follow the rules. They have spotters all over the place with binoculars just for safety.

 

I may be wrong but I think you maybe too long to drive in AB? I'm not sure. I pull a 45' flat and had to move the 5th wheel all the way forward to be legal. I had to also buy a special permit because my wheel base was too long at 265"

 

If you are going there make sure you keep your windows rolled up. It may be too late in the season but the mosquitoes are massive and will invade the inside of your truck in 2 seconds.

Everyone who works there lives there also. They have row after row after row of dorm type rooms. The pay is off the charts for someone with no experience doing anything. It's mostly kids in their early 20's. If they can take it they can make some huge money in a year.
