Gross means what was paid to the truck before expenses. Net is the number you want to know, and it will vary depending on how good you are at containing costs.

No, yes, maybes, sorta, not quite ... It's averages ... national average for dry van has been about $2.00 per loaded mile - including FSC - give or take for most of the year.

A company lease/purchase pays essentially an average rate that will pencil out to around 60% to 75% of the average loaded rate. It's steady and guaranteed ... the only thing you have to do is get your miles. The downside is you're capped at the average.

The upside of going with Landstar or any other that pays percentage, gives you access to rate and let's plan your own loads, is that it allows you to bet on yourself ... i.e. can you beat the averages or can you manage a relationship with a broker/agent to get to above average rates.

So when our young OP asks, "what it the average BCO gross per mile at Landstar, the answer is about $1.30 to a $1.44 depending on whether they have their own trailer ... now the smarter, more knowledgeable may do better, some will do worse. That's why when some calls into to Rutherford and sez their averaging $1.65 he give them a smiley face.

Also keep in mind that Truckers Report is the Lake Woebegone of truck drivers ... everyone is above average.

I coulda said i grossed 7200(thats the amount my loads added up to before LS takes a cut) But, I saw no point
When I said gross I meant my number before my costs……..(some people, not specifically speaking of this thread, don't understand gross)

And the fuel card $….. we can advance a certain amount of $ of each load…I usually take $1 a mile advance which more than covers fuel.

1st one i took $600 and 2nd i took $1600……I of course didn't use $2200 in fuel…..without getting all into what i did with the rest i ended up with 400+ on my card come the end of the week…….

How did you get away with getting 84% of the line haul? I thought most LS drivers got like 67%

You didn't understand what gross meant……

When i gave you my numbers I didn't gave you what i made/to me.
That was my percentage of the line haul and %100 of fsc

You said i received a certain % of line haul when you don't know the amount of the line haul to begin with.

I guess thats what i get for trying to be helpful…..no harm

example IF a load is paying $1000 on the LS board...

    say….750 lh and 250 fsc

    I get 73% of that 750+ %100 of the 250

When drivers get their percentage(based on how long they have been at LS, not everyone has the same contract) they get their percentage of the Linehaul not the whole number you see

In this example you would say that I got %79 of $1000

They are taught how to inflate figures in orientation but the more they talk the more they dig themselves into that hole.
