Ask a truck driver a very specific question which should have a short answer which is a number not a long useless post just a number and that's all. Instead you get 7 pages of long posts replies from a bunch of people that have no idea what their all miles revenue number is in the 1st place.
Landstar rates , what are you guys averaging on all miles for Van?

Can anybody tell me how LS figures their fuel surcharge
-
The usual method is to calculate the per-mile surcharge that would return the price of fuel to $1.25 per gallon from the current national average price from the preceding week for a truck achieving 6 mpg. I'm sure a Landstar BCO could be more enlightening on the exact parameters they use.
If fuel cost an average of $3.50 per gallon last week then...
($3.50 - $1.25) / 6 = $0.375 per mile or 37.5-cpm.
Since this is a deal based on what the individual carrier wants to do, then they can pretty much pick how they want to do it. It's not like there's a "law" stating how it's supposed to be done. For instance, my carrier uses the fleet average price per gallon after corporate discounts are deducted, which results in a lower fuel surcharge rate. But they do pay you whatever was collected above that amount, and guarantee that you'll get the calculated surcharge as a minimum.nofreetime Thanks this. -
Gonna pm you a question about prime since I didnt want to ask in the ls post. Nevermind that your inbox is full. If prime calculates f.s. after the fuel discount then in my eyes a way of looking at it is that they are giving the discount back to the customer. Do all/most companies do this? If not is there some other way that prime enables I/c's to make this lose up?

It's a Landstar thread... we should keep it that way.

Ls does the FS weekly by the DOE.(dept of energy) Its suppose to be a minimum amount per mile. For example, I think this week its around .40..I may be wrong but, that's what I received on a load from VA to SC yesterday.
You can always ask for more.....the better agents usually are good about giving you the FSC or more. I have a load today that's 552 miles and the FSC is 383$.... Done one on Monday for this same agent and that direct customer gives over $1 FSC per mile.nofreetime Thanks this.
