I am sure the answer is no, but just making sure. I thought of this question this morning, because I was woken up by another driver from my company stating that he was there to take my trailer. The night before I had a noon appointment the next day and I was already a couple of hours away so I had plenty of time. I decided to take this one day to finally relax, watch a movie, and eat at a restaurant. So I stayed up all night, went to bed, and two hours later a driver tells me that he is there to get my trailer, and now I have to take his load somewhere else and need to go right away. Things like that are annoying as a company driver, and I am sure it will not happen with Landstar?

As long as it's a forced dispatch company you have to comply, it's their equipment and your their employee. Now of course if I was in that situation, I'd go on duty line four for the trailer swap, then back off duty with a message stating I'm re-resting on a ten hour break for safety because I'm tired. I'd also accompany that message with, if you want something done last minute make sure I'm ready first before dumping someone else's problem on me.

Landstar has taken my trailer before, but that was because I was off for two weeks and they like to keep their equipment in service. If you don't want people telling you what to do, buy your own truck and trailer.

Gotta' be careful out there…….reminds me of the time I had my Wifey on board without authorization and get a message to pick-up a broke down driver (female) and return her to terminal 1000 mi away. Yikes, I can't remember how I got out of that one. But I did.

Once I learn the ropes to being a BCO and have made plenty of money and still like the job that is when I will decide to get my own trailer. I can buy as many trailers as I want with Landstar? If you get fired do you keep the trailer and just remove their sticker?

Landstar only "takes" your trailer if your off for an extended amount of time.Usually over ten days they may come and get it.If you buy your own trailer then you can let it sit all you want.If you quit or get your lease cancelled your trailers are still your trailers.

unfortunately as a company driver they can swap whenever they want. We usually ask for permission but it sometimes swaps have to happen. They shouldn't force you to drive though. What some people don't realize is sleeper berth doesn't always mean the driver got his needed sleep.

    Solution is simple.
Get your own authority and become a LS approved carrier with your own equipment, not a BCO.

Doing business with LS as your own man is a much better way to go.
