When I attended the GATS show in Dallas. I spoke to a landstar rep. They will preapprove you but you have 30 days to get a truck. If you go beyond the 30 days, you have to start the process ovcr again. Hope that helps ya...........

I thought about Landstar, but seeing as it's my first truck, I figured I'd get a little business experience under my belt before I hopped out there completely on my own.

Start the process and start looking at trucks. Like was mentioned you don't have a lot of time to buy once they approve you.

HOW EVER you do not want to have a truck sitting around that you need to make payments on and no lease to be working to pay for it.

Are drivers for landstar actually making money when they take as much as 35% off the load offer? Even at $2 a mile, 35% is a huge chunk of pie.

I'm looking very hard at Landstar, once I'm in the position to lease a truck on with someone (Hopefully sometime after the new year). Heard a bunch of good feedback so far, here and out and about.

One really silly question, though.... do they accept power-only leases or shall I wait until I have both tractor and trailer? This is for flat or step, I'm not partial to vans.

they have trailers you can pull but they charge you pretty hefty for them. you are much better having your own if there is any way you can swing it
