Lease programs like this are a slow death and sure way to put you in debt for a long time. It's highway robbery at its finest. Talk your husband out of it.
Crazy D Thanks this. -
2200 miles for 2500 is nowhere near "doable". You will go broke at that rate, only people that are happy with that rate are the ones paying it.
Truck609 Thanks this. -
This is a bit sticky, I wotk in a place where Prime is the company that deliver to us, we get about 4 trucks a day, i usually talk to 2, sometimes even all 4.
Most of the guys are owner op, though they are older, the young guys tend to lease out more.
But I will say I see my share of mix responses, like CAT, DET and Cummins, everyone has their own opinion.
If you have a family and a mortgage, dont risk being a owner op, thats my opinion. -
Why does he not consider being a company driver at first. The miles are tight right now in my opinion and I don't know who they feed first. Also as a l/o you have to absorb the cost of downtime if your truck breaks down and is in the shop, this can bankrupt you if they have to take very long to do the repairs.
Taking hometime very often also eats up the paycheck so he would have to be careful there also. Invest in a good bluetooth for the cell phone to stay more connect.ed is a good way to stay in touch; it would never be easy if you have kids, it is something that has to be tolerated and life goes on. -
It's been working for me... nearly at the end of a three-year lease. I don't have a mortgage to pay, or kids to feed - and that has to be a serious consideration for you. Unless you run leasing as a business with capital reserve, and your hubby the driver is on a strict salary, your going to have problems. Keeping the truck operational has to come first, because if you run it into the ground the maintenance can be prohibative. (BTW NavigatorWife, we get breakdown pay - no it doesn't cover lost revenue) It's quite possible that despite everything you do to keep costs under control that you won't have enough left over to pay your bills.
That's something to consider too... how much are you going to have to make to maintain your lifestyle? If you have credit card balances to pay off, car payments and all of the other assorted payment baggage that most folks have you may be too leveraged to make this work. And still put food on the table for the kids.
You didn't state how much experience your hubby has at this. Is he a new driver? If so, this is a really bad idea. Does he have any business experience? If not, this is a really bad idea.

I just can't seem to grasp why anyone would want to lease purchase a truck thru a carrier, by doing so, you are leaving alot of money on the table.
-
And the reason NOT to do the lease crap.
If I made that kind of money, I would be out of there ASAP. .44-.48CPM? wow.
If I don't do an even $1 a mile AFTER fuel, there would be a reason for it. Current load, 2200 miles, My money AFTER fuel will be over $3.5k. Their trailer etc.

talk him out of it. You can't put your future in the hands of some dispatcher. You think money is tight now??? Try this out and you will more than likely end up homeless.
