You might want to check on Schneider. They have a terminal in the Portland area. They have a lease program. Their used truck lease program is geared more for first-time operators and those truckers with poor credit and/or no down. Drivers with good credit can lease a new Cascadia with no down payment. You can choose your new truck from four brands (Freightliner, Volvo, Peterbilt, Kenworth). You can also get into a new 2015 T680 with $5k down. If you qualify for that, you might want to just buy one from a dealer. The down will be higher, but at least you can negotiate the price. Schneider's finance company (SFI) sets the purchase price if you lease one of theirs and won't let you negotiate it. I have a problem with that. Even with leasing you are better off negotiating the full price of the truck so your residual is lower at lease end. You don't need to lease on with Schneider if you go through SFI, but most drivers do.

If you run their Choice Program, you get paid a percentage of the load instead of mileage. You also get to pick your own loads and running area from their load board. They might be a good option to graduate from company driver to lease operator. And you can learn the basics through their program for the lease term, then purchase the truck for the residual value and go your own way. Right now there's a $5000 sign-on bonus, paid monthy in $1000 increments. They'll also throw $2000 into your maint. escrow. I think it's good thru the end of April.

EDIT: I HAD THEM SEND A QUOTE ON A USED 2014 T680 THEY HAVE IN INVENTORY, WITH 82K MI ON IT. PACCAR 455/13SPD AND TRIPAC APU. LEASE PURCHASE PRICE $138K, NO PRICE NEGOTIATING ALLOWED. $2K DOWN. 5 YEARS (!!!) OF LEASE PAYMENTS AT $621/WK ($2691/MO) . TOTAL OF PAYMENTS: $161,460. OPTION TO PURCHASE FOR $16,837. TOTAL PURCHASE PRICE INCL. ADMIN FEES: $180637. THEY ARE CHARGING 12.5% INTEREST, BUT DON'T MENTION IT, AND I HAVE A FICO SCORE ABOVE 700. I DID THE MATH TO FIGURE THE PERCENTAGE OUT. REP SAID THE AVERAGE LEASE DRIVER CLEARS APX $800/WEEK. FUGGEDABOUDIT! BETTER TO SAVE A FEW MORE GRAND FOR THE DOWN AND BUY ONE FROM A DEALERSHIP.

THERE'S A MANDATORY $949/MONTH HELD BY THEM FOR MAINT. ESCROW.

Oregon sucks. I love the state but hate their laws against working companies. Seems all the major cities in the west coast run the entire states and the major cities happen to be run by tree hugging libs. Good luck finding a decent company that will pay a livable wage out there.

Since you are in Corona, Can you tell the rest of us what company you work for? Last time I checked, Corona is on the west coast and seems to be a good sized community.

I live and work out of the greater Los Angeles community. I think I am paid just fine for the work I do.

I use to have five trucks (dummy me) went bankrupt after 9-11 and fuel went through the roof for last few years have been doing lease purchase deal was with one outfit ( with my five and after) fourteen years then take home dropped to 800 a week---I quit I generally get between 1200-2000 now after every thing plus 300 I take in advances the orange trucks are a good place to start( I'am trying to get my kid to go to their training deal but for any seasoned operators that know what real money is 800 a week isn't much above working in a walmart store. That's one of the problems in this business people don't remember what real money is if you compared dollar value from thirty years ago to today's dollars a truck owner should be taking home about five grand a week!!!!

I know huh? If the truck costs 3 times what they used to why doesn't the driver cost 3 times as much too?

Well, i've come full circle. I was all set to explore used trucks on the market, but i would end up with a high mileage one because i don't have $10-$15k lying around for a down on a newer one. I checked the available inventory Melissa at SFI sent me and found an '14 T680 with the same specs, APU, and miles (82k) for $125k, $13k less than the first one i was quoted, and a full $30k less than a new one! At first i thought it was just a repeat posting, but it was a different truck all together. I requested a quote and pics. It's a 30 month lease instead of 60, and the residual is $62k, which at about 400-450k miles will be below market price when the lease matures. The specs checked out and i pounced on it like an osprey!

Now i'm on a fast track to orientation in Green Bay, tentatively set for May 5th. Because my paperwork will be finalized before the end of April i still qualify for the $5k sign-on bonus, and the $2k maint. bonus. So, barring any snags, i hope to be on board next month. Looking forward to it.
