I figured I would start another new thread, this one here, since I will be doing a tru-lease purchase with my current company. I have been with them since Jan 14th 2014 and have no thoughts about leaving. One of my main reasons for going to this company was/is the opportunity to lease purchase a 2012 Freightliner Coronado Mid-Roof Glider, from Fitzgerald. I have researched buying a truck, being an I/C, being an O/O with own authority and all that goes with it for over 5 years now. NO, I don't WANT to do a lease purchase but, I feel this one is pretty close to being the best deal I could ask for, and it's all I can do right now. I am confident that I will make it and have taken all the steps I can to ensure I do make it, at least all that I have control over.

The truck payments are $596 per week, for 172 weeks and than I pay $1 to purchase the truck. The purchase price is $100,000 with no interest, and the truck has 286,000 miles on it currently. I figure in 3.5 years it will have around 650,000 I have been driving this truck since Jan 14th 2014 and love everything about it. My goal is to pull a step with it and I will work toward that goal. Right now I pull a reefer and do pretty good.

My pay will be 82% of the line haul No hidden fee's, this is a Dad, Mom and son operation and they have treated me as family since day one. The only thing I don't like about the deal is the trailer rental payment but, I can buy my own trailer and get rid of that payment.

I have sold everything I own except for my old pickup and so, my personal expenses are minimal. I have no house payment, no car payment or credit cards. I only have phone, sat radio, checking account & accounting payment, which doesn't add up to much. I will be putting all my effort to fulfilling my goal of truck ownership over the next 3.5 years. I have worked hard to make myself ready for this day and I look forward to the start.

I will be filing taxes as a Sole Proprietor and received my EIN today. My current bank is USAA and I didn't see any need to open a Business Checking Account so, I called USAA and opened a 2nd Checking Account with them. So, now I have a free checking account for personal and a NOT free checking account for business.

I am thinking about posting my settlements on this thread but not sure if I should. I have opened a Profit Gauges account and will be using that to keep track of my numbers.

If anyone has any comments or questions, feel free to comment here or shoot me a PM

I posted my last post in the wrong thread..lol

So, spending a couple days here in Greencastle, PA at the TA Figured since I had time, I would do get a 34 while the traffic died down. Since I was here, and had the time, figured I would get a DOT Inspection done on the trk/trlr. Nothing major was found, just a bad marker light on the rear of the trailer and, some reflective tape on the DOT bumper needed replaced. The best news was that the mechanic who did my inspection just happened to have a OPS-1 Ecopur bypass system, slightly used. I asked him how much he wanted for it and he said $80! I bought it and it came with everything I need to mount it except the filter and the owners permission...lol I will hold onto it for a while, until I get the owners permission, which I feel confident I will get in the near future.

What is the cost of a new glider compared to the 2yr old one for $100k?
Either the interest charges are built into that price or the carrier is willing to subsidize or totally forget finance charges on their capital in exchange for locking your truck in to only being able to haul for them. Can you keep the lease truck and terms of that lease but haul for someone else if things sour with your current business partner?
It may work out well, but I would rather keep that option open. You need the option to secure outside financing and pay off the current lease with no penalty to go elsewhere if need be. Some carriers will charge you a premium for their used truck, not let you pay their lease off in lump sum. Then near the end of the lease term, they will starve you out of their truck. Then they play the same game with the next aspiring owner op that has no cash or credit. The same game is played in real estate and cars with lease-to-own schemes.

I am buying the truck for 102,000, interest free and a $1 bill at the end makes it mine. It will take me 3.5yrs and 172 payments to pay it off. I will secure loads from outside the company, if I need to but they will go through the company as that is law. I can not leave the companies authority, which is common in most l/p deals. I have no qualms about staying with my current company, until truck is paid off. In fact, I will stay with them as longs as things stay as they are. They are a great company to work for and they have Integrity, something lacking in most l/p operations. I know the companies you are referring to and I would never do a l/p through them. I sincerely appreciate your support and welcome it...

Check out Lone Mountain before you sign. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Keep control of your truck seperate from the people(carrier) that provide your revenue generation. That's just good busibess, and it keeps people out of slavery. They may be great people now, but if they get desperate for money for any reason; they will screw you over. I've seen it many times. People can turn on you if they get desperate.

I know about LM,,,talked to them before. My credit is too far gone right now to even work with them. I have done my research and I am confident with what I am doing. Like I said, this is a mom, dad & son operation. They live/work out of their home, on a 100 acre farm. Great family and they treat me as if I was family. I have no worries about them screwing me over or anything and I feel buying a two year old glider, with 288,000 miles for 100K on a no interest loan, is a pretty good deal. I have been driving this truck since mid Jan and have had no problems. I have made sure all the maint. was done and a new DOT Inspection before I start. The PM is due and they are going to pay for that as well and once that happens, I will do an Oil Sample draw and send to Polaris for testing.

As far as people turning on you if they get desperate, I know what you say is true,,,,just look what Arrow did. I can't worry about things that I have no control over. Heck, if I sit down and get to thinking about it, I get more concerned where this Country is going in the next 3 years. But, if I worry about that, I will just end up doing nothing and that aint no way to live.
