25 years ago I was grossing $170K with a reefer running on my own hauling direct,,a few years later I cut my miles 30% with a step and making about the same money,,a couple years later I was running about the same miles and increased my gross to $200+ with a 5 axle RGN a couple years later I went to a 7 axle RGN cut my miles by an other 10% and increased my gross to over $340K a year hauling all over size ,no pilot cars and only about $16K/yr in permits,,,,money there just have to find the right lease , right kind of freight and have good business skills,,

remember you can't make any money hauling what the big fleets or carriers that hire rookies or what the rail road hauls.
There are a lot of hobby truckers out there and others that just want to run as many miles as they can,,work smart is the way to go,
Find a shipper near you that has steady out bound decent paying freight, try to run a traffic lane where you can find freight that is regular going back towards home,, there is a demand for good quality drivers and owner operators,,they are out there you just got to keep looking,

    drive safe,,

i just paid my truck off this past may,did it in 15 months. 2g a mo. good business skills is a must, you will learn and you can do it. some weeks are better then others, save money when its goin good. keep a level head about what you are doing and keep real goals. usually a company takes a % for truck escrow, never touch it unless you have to. i wouldnt even pay off the truck early with it,as some places persuade you. keep engine alive with regular oil changes. learn how to do stuff...(brakes,drums,air hoses, lights, splicing wires, tire changes) or have someone you trust do it. i use the same mechanic on major repairs and try to handle the other things. the thing is this, you dont have to have the latest and greatest air-wrenches,if done by hand just check and tighten them up. sure, there are a few horror stories..stolen tires..stolen fuel..break-ins...so on.. i think that those stories do not hold relevance to what i have accomplished. petty things do happen from petty people. i pull flatbed and it works for me. you can make up around 60 or more. im not going to lay out exactly what i make but its attainable. its hard work. i dont recommend it,it is better to save up and put a down payment on a truck and work out the terms with a financial institution and not a carrier. going the other way can work for some though as some of us have no other way to ownership. good luck to you folks
