Operative word here is "be able" ... If your not able, then you won't be successful ... you aren't and weren't.

i lived in their truck 27 days a month for 2 1/2 years.
i went to 45 states and 4 canadian provinces.
great experience . lots of new equipment dropping and hook and paid lumpers.
slid down hills on black ice and managed to stay out of the ditch.
once the newness wears off you will realize the insanity of leasing as a new solo driver trainee.
there will be great opportunitys to get overtime and see your spouse more than once a month -
All you really learn to do while you're in training with a mentor is drive your truck and how to record your HOS times. You haven't been through a winter yet and you haven't learned how to preplan a long-distance trip to make an on-time delivery three time zones away...in a state that doesn't observe DST. My first year was filled with failures of all kinds like that and so will yours. That's what it's for -- learning how to operate, not just drive, a truck. You will be better served not to listen to your recruiter and go chasing greenbacks just yet. Drive for a guaranteed paycheck of cents per mile, as low as they might be, while you learn skills you have just tasted...and many you haven't. Like chaining over Donner on a tight schedule. Or driving through Wyoming at 15 mph because that's the speed limit due to road conditions.
You have a lot to learn. Give yourself a chance to learn it without also having to figure out how to find and buy inexpensive fuel, arrange for maintenance AND make an on-time delivery after having chained over Donner. Or paying bridge tolls in California and New York. Or...
Next year at this time, if you are still driving (and many new drivers don't make it a year) you'll have a more accurate picture to help you decide if you want to go into business for yourself and be responsible for every expense your truck incurred in the past 12 months...and more.Last edited: Oct 13, 2014
bigmikectn, damutt, Wickedfire77 and 2 others Thank this. -
swift flew me out to LA to look at a lease truck. I said no thanks. Now, are you going to fly me back to phx? no. You pay your way back.
Stranded in LA. Thats the swift difference.otrnomad Thanks this. -
Well, that sucks. Why would a company do that? Oh, right. They are interested in leasing, not doing something for their employees who say 'no.'
-
and they can still pay me a ###### .25 cpm!! the swift difference!
