With all do respect. I've seen people succeed and fail doing your way and the lease purchase way.

Lease purchasing is nothing but a scam put on to fleece drivers into thinking they will be operating as an independent contractor when they really aren't. The disgusting part is the companies like prime, transam, and others that pressure or coerce students just out of training to go into these fraudulent programs, pay them just barely enough to clear the payment and other expenses but leave them with little else. It's nothing but a sweatshop scheme brought about by the bottom feeder companies so they could get away with cheap labor in the end. All of those people on here that cheerlead for these fraud plans are actually company reps posing as lease-op drivers.

JCT in a nutshell, .90 cpm all dispatched miles, plus fuel surcharge, payment is based on miles 19-22 cpm, lower miles equal lower payment, JCT wants experienced drivers, 2yrs, and there are no company drivers being hired. JCT pays for alot of use taxes, plates, etc. It's a decent partnership, and beats company driver hands down, with this program you can walk away without penalty, or stay and pay $1 and get your title, alot more than you'd get four years as company driver. And as for the people that keep saying your not a real o/o well you pay and deduct expenses and taxes no different than a driver paying a high monthly payment to a bank monthly. The biggest difference with JCT is your payment is based on your miles.
The reason you get so many JCT drivers commenting the way we do, is because there is alot of pride that comes with what we do and the money is great, you don't have to run yourself into the ground to get 1k a week after expenses. It's a easy going environment, and plenty miles. And the last point I continue hearing is about picking your loads, consider that a headache you don't have, the planners etc, do avery good job of booking loads and assigning them, if there's a problem, they work on swapping the load with another driver. I honestly don't get some of these people how they can comment on what they obviously don't know, you can catch me going into California from I-80 and heading out from either I-80 or I-40, I'm one of many very pleased drivers, and don't misunderstand, this isn't for everyone, there's alot of responsibility, as long as you do your part, JCT will do theirs, it's a partnership, plain and simple.

Trucking is largely a profession of getting out what you put in and your own tolerance of risk.

Want to "do what you're told" and not have to pay for fuel, arrange trips, or worry about taxes or saving receipts, and just be responsible for making on-time picks and deliveries? Good; be a company driver. Most drivers are.

Want it a little more challenging but aren't sure you want to own a depreciable asset with a finite lifetime that you will have to sell at the end? Find a good lease company and test the waters with a 1-3 year lease, then walk away at the end or stay. Like John Cristner Trucking.

Want to own a truck and make your own decisions? Super; buy one and find a company that pretty much stays out of the way except to show you the entire list of available loads so you can plan your own weeks. Like Schneider Choice.

Or, if you're really into doing it all, get a truck and your own authority. My next-door neighbor did that; he lasted just over a year and lost his house. He learned it's a lot different when absolutely nothing is paid for by anyone and you get no help from anyone. And it's also the way many truck companies started out...one truck driven by its owner becomes a Stevens Transport or WEL Companies or many others.

To each his own. There's no reason for personal attacks because one person makes a different choice than you would, right?

So at JCT if you take a whole week off, you have no truck payment that week?

Their weekly payment is in two parts: the 'mortgage' part and the mileage part. The 'mortgage' part is due every week and is a relatively small constant payment, say, $350. The rest of the payment is based on the number of miles you drove that week. Taking a week off won't cause you severe financial difficulty if you plan for it.
