Get a copy of the lease agreement for every company imaginable and see which one works best for you. I've never done a lease but that seems pretty common sense business.

How long you been driving?
Which company?
Any previous experience as a business owner?
Independent lease or company lease?
Its not about the miles, its not about the CPM, it's not about the truck payment, or the shiny new truck or the insurance, or the escrow, or fuel taxes, or tolls, or fuel prices.
It IS about profit, how much you have in your bank account at the end of the year. Make sure the deal you sign gives you the opportunity to succeed, very very few do.BullJockey Thanks this. -
youre gonna kiss your personal life goodby and run like a rabbit to make ends meet. its a good trick carriers came up with to make drivers sign their life away to them. its better to buy used truck and find small carrier and run on percentage. or even something like landstar where you can choose your freight.

I work with total transportation and don't have much experience and my mom used to run my step dads owner options company with authority

Hmmmm, lease op or owner op... I'd go owner op. California? No? Then don't get anything newer than 2002-2003. You want to avoid EGR, DPF, SCR.
How much you got saved? Even leasing on somewhere your going to need a SHTF fund.
If you really want to lease, and I'm not recommending you do, but check out Schneider Choice. You can get your feet wet, and if it's not for you, walk away. -
I was thinking of leasing to get the truck. Then going owner op afterwards but don't know where to start or what to look at

All of the lease operators I have talked to here at Celadon seem to be happy with their arrangements and are making money. Yes it's a company lease, but it's directly with the same lease company Celadon uses for their company trucks. If I keep hearing good things, I might move over. I like the fact that they suspend their payments when you have time off. This fact alone gets probably half the LOs out there in trouble with finances, trying to catch up their payments.
