I've frequented "The trucker report" off and on, and I've noticed a lot of drivers bashing lease purchase programs. I wanted to put my two cents in on what I've been through on my journey to paying off my tractor. Searching the Internet one day and I came across SFI trucks website, looked at the reviews and decided to go along with it. After filling out my app I then received a couple follow up calls. At that point and time I was told to got onto the website and look at the trucks they have available pick one and let them know what and when I was ready to roll.

This was my first time leasing June of 2010, so I decided to go with a 2007 Freightiner Century Red in color with 404,000 miles on the dash. The truck came from Holland Enterprises, Fargo ND, also equipped was heated tanks, Thermo king apu. They will rent you a car to drive where your located to Greenbay, Wisconsin for three day orientation, if you don't lease onto schneider then you just have to complete the truck paperwork and take your truck to whatever company you want to drive for. I decided to run with the orange they have all types of opinions. I went with their % program. Truck payment was 435.00 aWk, 35.00 engine catastrophic plan, 300 aWk maintenance. I ran with Schneider National for a little over a year, before I had to make a move for something that would get me home more"Pregnant wife". I went back to FFE Inc Dallas, Texas July 2011.

For those that say a Lease doesn't work or you have to run ridiculous miles to make a living is bogus. I've been running a dedicated run where I only sleep in my truck two days a week Monday and Thursday off every wednesday and weekends. I've made 195-200+ every year after I made the switch before I paid my truck off Aug 2014 the title became mine. Yes I've had my ups and down it's a machine and there is going to be a time where it will breakdown as long as there is money set aside for a rainy day then it will be all good. There also was a 12,000 buyout too at the end of my lease. The give different options, they will give you six months average out to the total buyout or whatever you have in you maintenance account you can put towards the buyout. So programs are tailored to a driver success some aren't. Everybody situation is different but I know it can be done! Good Luck to the one's willing to take the leap.

At the end of the day it's mine and paid for, it`s paid for a new head on the engine, liners, pistons are good top and bottom now I can save what I invested in the truck 21,000 a year! Who works hard to just got and get a new truck. Why in the hell would I want to sale or trade for another payment

Indeed! Great job with those numbers. You were over 3 grand a month before you turned the key so yes you did well. Prime is like over 4 grand before you turn the key .

How did you do in comparison to your lessor ? Your gross ? Your operating ratio? Were you able to hit the industry standards?

"I've made 195-200+ every year after" Are those numbers miles or dollars? What did you actually pay income taxes on?

@Imcclure1220 Those are numbers in the sense of dollars last year I did 205, and this year 195. My first two years I paid 13,000 federal and a little over 2 grand in state, my last two I made way more total gross per year so I dished out more.

The company Im leased my truck onto we run out of our own Dc's doing LTL I'm on a dedicated run from Ga to Nc two times a week. 65 per stop and pick up 1st and last. my run is about 356 mi so it pays 1.40 plus fuel surcharge I may do no more then 800-900 awk in fuel. Also the relay loads from terminal to terminal too. So I do work weekend s two times a month by choice.

@Chalupa The comparisons wasnt a big difference because once I came into leasing I didn't have a big overhead. Its was just myself. Starting off was a learning experience once I had the hang of it with Schneider i woulg gross a little over 4 grand where I am at now I gross 5 grand a week.
