    Doesn't change a thing!

Lol, since 80% if not more, of the otr driving force hauls reefers and dry vans your statement that any experienced driver should be making .55 a mile is still bs.

Again there are always exceptions to every rule but your the one that belittled a driver that was leasing because your words! ANYONE WITH EXPERIENCE AND A CLEAN RECORD CAN MAKE .55 A MILE.

One last time, they can. Walmart pays that pulling vans. Top notch equipment, APU's and white shirts.

I guess I should have quoted this instead. Yeah because there are tons of places that pay company drivers .65 a mile. Again, the majority of company's are reefer and dry van, not specialized. So .65 a mile is NOT common.

Here is the bottom line. If a lease driver is happy with whatever he/she earns, who are you to tell them they shouldn't be. To each their own.

Keep posting exceptions, since the majority of trucks are OTR dry vans and reefers your few exceptions mean nothing to the millions of drivers that haul general freight.

With little experience and getting paid 0.28, no knowledge whatsoever about O/O game. No money to put down on a truck. I got in this one-year lease (speaking one week b4 finish) Not only I doubled my income. I learned how to book my loads, how to maintain a truck without worrying about breakdown since it was under warranty. And most importantly I saved enough to get all my equipment paid for before hitting the hwy as a true O/O. If I went back in time I'd do it again.

Wanted more control over how I ran the truck, wanted to pick the truck out and have the option to dig my own hole. Gained a lot of knowledge in a short period of time, has somewhat well prepped me; or at the very least pointed me in a better direction to go O/O sooner than later.

    Reasons to lease a truck.
    1. You are responsible for your earnings.
    2. Most are walk away leases (so if you fail which a lot will) there is no cost to you.
    3. Most companies will have a rental plan if your truck breaks down.
    4. It helps to get off the company driver mindset (those who don't fail)
    5. You buy a truck with a bank loan and fail then your credit gets hammered.
    6. I had people tell me it was impossible and they were wrong :)
    7. You make more then a company driver after you stop running like a company driver.

The question should be Why do you want to lease?
if you have never run a business it is going to be hard but you can do it. Most people that fail are because they cant help themselves but spend all that settlement check every week then on slow weeks they cant handle to down check. Focus and hard work.

To me, I kind of see a lease that you can back out of at any time as a great idea to make sure you can handle buying a truck. Are you getting screwed on the deal? Of course. The point is to make the company money, not you. But I'd rather fail and only owe either nothing or a few thousand dollars than owe the full price of a truck, even used. Once I knew I could handle it and could keep a truck running and I'm not making any big mistakes with money, then I'd actually buy. I don't see leasing as a good long term option, just because of the nature of what a lease really is.
