I have one. I had the opportunity to lease a truck. And I didn't. And it was the best idea ever.

Eh. I did it. I succeeded but then again I wouldn't do it the way I did it. I had some luck on my side...I fully admit that... and that lease program has changed anyway so I would no longe recommend it.

The only thing I can recommend is don't get on a lease program where you can't self dispatch. That will eliminate a lot of leases but it's for the better

Umm, I don't have YouTube video about it, but I own my truck and leased it on to Schneider. I run their Choice Program and have no problem making more than enough to support my family and even buy my "toys". Percentage + FSC. I average $1.58 on all miles. Check out the Schneider area of TTR. Lots of good info there. Guys who either own their trucks or got them from Schneider, all doing well and loving what they do. It makes a big difference when you can pick your loads off a load board and see what loads are paying anywhere in the country. Plan your trips. Go home when you want, for as long as you want. Your business. Your way. As long as you cover your obligations, you won't hear from anyone. I have talked to Schneider maybe 3 times in the past 4 months. Everything is online. No problems. Not all lease programs are created equal.

That, is not something I would ever do. Jeez, I bring home $1200 - $2300 after all expenses weekly. (Before I set aside 20% for taxes.) If I go home for a few days, it's on the lower side, otherwise, no excuse not to earn a good income. I have $12k in my maintenance/truck account to cover the break downs that do happen from time to time, but I just don't understand how some drivers screw it up.

Hmmm. Divergence in opinion and advice among truck drivers. What a shock. Please tell me it ain't so!! To complicate matters, both ends of the dichotomy are both right AND wrong! Again - a shocker. Extreme opinions. Hmm.

I say, do your DUE DILLIGENCE! I have done all three. There are pros and cons to being a company driver and pros and cons to lease (and lease-purchase) and pros and cons to being a true O/O (conventional financing or own the truck outright). They are ALL out to get their OWN over yours.

    What'cha REALLY gotta ask is:

    What do you WANT?

How HARD are you willing to work for it?

How much of your personal SKIN do you have to put in the game?

What are you willing to give up to get whatever it is that you want?

What do you have to bring to the table?

What do you have to back you at home?

What can you make outta all THAT as relates to what you want?

Dear OP, you ask a question, but the answer is actually questions to answers within.

I'll say this and bow out: You can make or break just about ANY situation you get into with regards to what you asked. The KEY is to remember the VERY first rule of ALL trucking:

Do your research, trust your gut and above ALL else - CYA!!

    Best of luck Hand.
