I've been a company driver at USA Truck for over 7 years, on and off. Left them in 2011, worked LTL for a year, then refrigerated for 16 months. Came back to USA Truck in March of 2014. I've noticed that a good many company drivers have switched over to leasing a truck from Quality Leasing and become an owner op. Question is WHY? Is the deal that good? Please advise. Thxs.

For the same reason you see a buy here pay here lot on every other corner. Rent to own furniture store in every shopping plaza and cash advance businesses in every neighbor hood. It sure isn't cause of the good deals they offer.

Sometimes a "good deal" is just a state of mind and there's a lot of followers out there. I'm in the same line of freight so I know some folks who work for
Quality. One in particular, a good friend of mine has just quit them after 4 yrs. He's an O/O and had his own truck with Quality. Leasing a truck from any co is never a great idea IMHO. But whatever floats your boat.
He told me that he did a comparison with other companies on pay and realized he wasn't getting what he deserved. So he quit.
I shall not comment on which co he joined, but they are well established. I wish him well.
But good luck with your venture.

I believe that a lot of drivers jump into lease deals because of the freedom, the chance of being your own boss and saying yay or nay to loads. A lot of company drivers jump into lease agreements without business plans and fall on their faces because they think now that they are "owner operators" they don't have to run as hard as company drivers.

Very few lease deals give you the freedom you speak of.
