Me and my new co driver get our firsr load together, tonight. (Shaw in dalton georgia to shaw in elgin illinois).
This will be our first time team driving.
how do YOU divide hours? Do you do midnight-noon and noon-midnight so you both get equal day/dark hours? Do one of you do days (6am-6pm) and the other does nights? (6pm-6am?)
whats your scheduling method?
New to teams: how do you divide drive/sleep hours?

we cant follow a set schedule..too many variables...we started out with my hubby driving till he got tired then i took over.. i like nights better anyway but with that being said it is a compromise. the best advice is to figure out whats working on your truck and go with that. just remember there will be days that you feel like you drove more than the co driver and you may have but thats trucking but it does work itself out over time...trust me on that fact.

Yeah, depends on what each driver prefers. One might want to drive days the other nights. Perfect. If neither wants it that way, break it up fairly, like 12-12 or 3-3.

My teammate and I work out who likes driving better at which times. Do you like daytime better than night? Are you a night owl? Can't sleep in a hot truck? Once you both decide what you like, whenever the pickup is, that's who starts the run.

I drove team for 2 1/2 years
With my girlfriend and I drove when I was needed
Your going to have your days where u drive me but
Everything evens out at the end -
It always worked out best for me when we had it clearly defined who drove days and who drove nights. when the pickup was and deliver was non essential. I drove days until my 10 hours were up and he took over and woke me up around 630am in the morning. I drove all day and into the night till my 10 hours or 11 were up depending on if there was a fuel stop ahead. I never worried about who did more backing up to the shipper or who did more paperwork. driving 12am to 5am was not for me.

I don't know how anyone makes miles by getting trivial on drive times.
If we leave evening say at 5-6 someone's been up all day. So we run 7-8 hours and switch. That way they aren't run into the ground.
Once going we run our 11/14 unless it fits to stop a bit early while fueling to pretrip.
When we get low on hours we will get one of us a 34 reset while we are moving sobww never have to stop.
We can run strong with minimal delays... Waiting for set rimes would never work.born&raisedintheusa Thanks this. -
One thing I don't get is why someone would want to team? pay doesn't seem to be much difference and the one you have to deal with personalities, what if you get started with someone you don't like? No private time. Its kinda like riding my bike when you run solo your not waiting for other bikers and you can stop when you want.

My wife didn't like the all night hours, but she could start at around 0430 with no problem, so that's how we did it. She did the 0430 to 1630 and I got the other side. Sometimes if we could I would drive to around 3 am and then stop the truck for 1 to 1.5 hrs. until she got up and things worked out well. Thankfully those days are over, 12 years on the road together and now we both can sleep at night - her at home and me in the truck. Had a lot of fun though, cranked the miles and double the paycheck.

No matter what times you two find out times to drive.
Have a constant sleep pattern and eating times and break times everyday.
If you gets tired or start to feel funny, PULL THE @#$% over and go to sleep.
Do not drive tried or fall asleep at the wheel or your going to get someone killed.
