I have been a linehaul driver for years with old dominion and I cant stand working nights anymore I always feel like crap Recently I decided because of this I wanted to go back to PD the only problem is losing my senority at OD because I am switching from line haul yes it is a pay cut but OD also dosent pay OT until you exceed 60 hours So I decieded to look at USF holland for PD the only problem they are part of yrc which wasnt doing so good yes I would like a pension because I am 41 and dont have much in my 401k but I am concerned about the stability of anything associated with YRC.. I am not usually a indecisive person but I would like some opinion if you could to help make a decision maybe some insight

No daytime bid runs available ?
    Which terminal?

I'd stack that 401k full and put in for a bid next time round.

Can't fault you for hating nights though . . .

YRC is in the same Union as a lot of other companies (I drove for Standard Forwarding), so not only have these other companies bailed out YRC...they support them. YRC is fine, and just as strong as any other company.

I would rather drive for USF Holland than Yellow or Roadway....atleast those guys at Holland always seemed to be in a good mood when I met them on docks. Yellow, Roadway, Saia, Conway, Old Dominion, Lakeville, Dorhn, Panama....not so much.

Sorry to hear youre leaving what some consider a reputable LTL company. What time are you hitting the road at night and how many miles a night are they asking you to run?

usually I leave at 9pm and my run use to be 567miles on a good night I would be back at about 630 am but now that I made that run much more efficent instead of a straight run from terminal to meet point to terminal they started running me in a triangle which is terminal to meet to another terminal and back to origin terminal and it adds on about a extra 100 miles making it 667 just too much and I brought it up and they do nothing about it since i still get back within allowed time yeah I could drag my feet but that would just stick me out in some stupid motel overnigh and my work ethic wont let me do it

and the thing is in the last few years old d corperate seems to becoming more like conway where it is all about the profits (which is any company) but they use to have a atmosphere where they cared about your personal time too and now it is not so much

Pardon my ignorance here, but LTL and working nights go hand in hand, right? I'm subscribing to this thread in hopes that someone will suggest a solution for daytime hours. Driving some hours of the night is OK, but my body doesn't understand between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 am why I'm not sleeping and it becomes very unpleasant trying to stay awake.

Line Haul in the LTL world is night time running (usually)....P&D (Picks/Drops) is the day time work.
I did the "City" P&D...bumped about 30 docks a day, pulling about 7 trailers. It was a lot of work, and it sucked. 9 months, and I had enough of it. Wasn't worth it to me for the money. Sure I was home every day...but a shower, some supper, and sleep...then back at it.

What's more important, your sanity or the almighty dollar ? Yes, you need $$$ to make a decent living, but it won't do you any good if you die at age 50, right ?
