Well I have been thinking about going over to UPS (brown) ever since my friend got hired on there (it only took him one turn on seasonal). My current employer I make 25.00 per hour, have a set schedule, new trucks. What I do not like is 401k and expensive insurance, overnight runs (sleep in the truck) and working every weekend all weekend. I know it is a risk doing the seasonal thing, I have been pulling doubles for two years, so that will not be a problem. I also have a job lined up in case I do not get hired after the first season. Where I am at they (UPS) start at 25.00 an hour (for seasonal) then hired on you get busted back down to 16 hr in four years though I will be at top pay which is 34.50 hr. After 90 days insurance (which is totally employer paid by the way) double time on Sunday, time and half on Sat and overtime after 8hr. Did I mention Teamsters pension. It is hard to pass up but I am not sure I will like all the micro management going on, as my current employer I never hear from the boss sometimes for weeks at a time, I am left alone too do my job. Most people I talk too say "Yeah there is some B.S. going on but it is not that bad. Funny thing is they called me last week and I turned them down and told them to call me next season, then a different supervisor calls me today and basically insisted I come in and talk to him (next Tues) so it has got me thinking and I decided to go in and talk. My friend tells me there are about 10 drivers there with 25+ years in so I have a good shot at get hired on permanently . Funny thing is he told me to come over there during the spring season and I passed it up then and they hired all 11 seasonal drivers on (after only one season) I feel like if I do not act now I will be regretting it down the road. So what do all you all think is it worth all the B.S. Thanks

I think you need to sit down with a paper and pencil and make yourself out a list of pluses and minuses about going to UPS vs staying where you are. No matter what someone on here tells you, it is their opinion, and what works for them. But YOU know yourself, and know what you will and won't be willing to put up with.

IMNHO, the micro-managing would be a non starter right there. But there are thousands of UPS employes that thrive under it.

If they hired 11 drivers from last season that hurts your chances of being hired permanantly.

If you are satisfied with your job, why would you quit? Now, if you are not happy with your current job, you should be looking someplace else

The only bad part about UPS is starting out at UPS. After you settled in after a year or two it should be nothing more then a great job with benefits that you can definitely retire from.
