Today I got to work all ready to do my Monday route and when I looked at my route sheet I saw my Tuesday route instead and remembered oh yeah thanks givings on Thursday. Any how I got everything ready and walked to the back to get my truck when I saw it was out side in it's parking space, not loaded not touched nothing.
Turns out the warehouse was 2-4 hours behind schedule. Which put me 2 hours behind schedule and you can not make that time up.

Actually when your running late like that the time flies by and before you know it, it's almost 4 in the afternoon and you've got nothing done.

Any how I had 580 cases of which 20 of them the warehouse had broken in poor pallet building mishaps. I had a bottle of wine break and leak down throughout a whole pallet damaging many cases of beer which now cannot be sold until they are repacked. I got to work at 6am and left work at 8pm. My Tuesday route is a pretty big loop for an inner city route and it spans a pretty big area.

I made a mistake was flusterd was rushing and got my self "snow blind" as a friend of mine would say and missed a keg that I was supposed to pick off had to go back to that place and deliver that keg. Got to my last stop 10-15minutes before 7:00pm today pitch black outside, by the way I run in I guess you could say the inner city a little bit, the district I am in, has some nice places, but it also has some real scummy places too. Anyhow 580 cases 14 kegs and 22 stops. Had a Walmart with 132 cases on it, boy was that a treat!

When you get into this business, the warehouse tends to run behind or like in our case the warehouse was doing Monday and Tuesday on the same day and doing 2 days worth of work in 1 day takes time. The warehouse this morning those guys you could tell were falling apart at the seems and were losing it.

It happens any time they send the trucks out way late product damages go through the roof because the warehouse is rushing the drivers are rushing to meet customer appointment times.

The transportation manager at my work looked at my route sheet and he had this look on his face which pretty much said "Well your screwed."

Just think you have 1 less day this week to deliver product and be home with family. Then again maybe 1 less day of pay?

The more I hear about the day you had and your other post it is all the more reason I DO NOT want to get into beverage trucking but because I have to stay in state, medical waiver, I may be stuck doing it?

    Hope you have better days

Hey Mike, don't think that is limited to beverage or wholesale food, because it isn't. I've had a lot of days like that in LTL, and not necessarily on holiday weeks, though those were always fun too.

We could tell just by the looks of the line haul loads as they came in, what kind of a day the other docks had. I swear they would shove stuff in the trailer, then when they couldn't get the last stack on, they'd back across the dock and get a run at it, and slam it in there. Of course, our guys did the same thing with outbound.

Frankly, it is a wonder that ANYTHING gets from the shipper to the consignee in one piece when it is shipped LTL and has to go through several docks and trailer changes!

Personally, I can't imagine doing a beverage route, no matter what kind it was.

Got to find a better gig man, that place sounds like a ulser factory. To much stress. Hell sounds like almost any bevrage service would be better than that. Best of luck just remember as long as your safe and dont steal a driver can ALWAYS find a job. Might not always be happy but aways have work till you find a better gig.

Thanks for the insight mike ,sounds like a fast paste day ,but alittle too much heat ....i hate appointments & window times especially in the city .....i pull auto frght here in Detroit ,but im getting too old to hang around with auto frght trucking companies ( here today ,still here tomorrow ,jus lower pay ) i can honestly say I've helped build four of these auto frght trucking companies here in the motor city ,it's takes about 4yrs and then they get stuck in "la la land"
And turn into a back stabbing ,blood bath .....I've learned that when O/Os are working along side with company driver it's not good for all drivers involved .....we are hrly , they are flat rate ....they cut our hrs ,while they cut their rates
They are ready leave and so are we , ....i need something more solid like : UPSF or ABF ...I've got super clean track records ,.....don't want to waste any more time pulling auto frght

The beer company I work for is hiring you could have a bulk truck route, going to grocery stores of course that's all timed with windows. Or you can have a side loader route like me which is less stress.

Sysco, Gordon Food Service or US Foods usually always need people or Northern Hasserot Brandt they would be my first choice of food distributor to work for.

Do you work for one of Central Transports goofy shell companies i.e. Pro Logistics, Link, Mohican, GLS Leasing Co, Universal. Speaking of them I haven't seen as many Pro Logistics trucks out on the road lately, but I'm not near any major auto manufacturing facilities either.

Yeah mike alot of those companies you mentioned are owned by our favorite clown mr maroon , he has been like a cancer to the trucking industry for yrs now ,pro logistics is now called universal , they finally got rid of those pee yellow internationals ,I've managed to stay away from any of those companies ....right now im with a kindve new company called EHS ,been here going on 5 yrs but it looks like another dead end job and don't see them in business long , we pull primarily Chrysler frt. And yes we are up chryslers butt , so any mis haps with Chrysler and we all are out of a job , ive seen this too many times ....the owners usually get comfortable and put all their eggs in one basket

I have a friend that recently quit EHS trucking ,Romulus ,mi ....because of bad policies ,we got this company on it's feet and it seems that management has forgotten those of us ,who put in those 16 hr days ,getting the company on it's feet
....so my friend hired on with sysco , he works a 4 day week at flat rate $ 300 a day , he seems to be happy
.....think im gonna research some companies and bust a move in 2015 ....thank god we can now take a good look at trucking companies before applying and find out it's a waste of job history & time

I've seen this as well. I just can't understand what these idiot owners, CEOs or whatever are thinking when they allow this to happen. It is TERRIBLE BUSINESS PLANNING!:biggrin_25513:

I'd say you would do well to stick with your plans to find another job, doing your "due diligence" first!

They had those internationals with that weird DOT sleeper thing on the back and the plackard that said PRO LOGISTICS on the door usually they pulled some beat up yellow trailer that said GLS Lease Co on it.

Man I can still remeber back in the early 2000s when they were running a bunch of old Ford L8000 on I-90 in Ohio.
