Hey guys and gals, new to the world of ltl trucking, I'm located right out of NYC and i have a 26' straight. Drove a truck in NYC for 3 years delivering moving supplies for a company and i wanted to go out on my own, saved some cash and bought the truck.

I met with two companies and I'm not clear on how the payment works, i was hoping someone could clear it up for me. One company said they pay a rate of $400 for NYC and that it payed $14 for anything under 1000lbs and 1.7 for anything over 1000. Is that $400 guarantee plus $14 a stop under 1000lbs ? Probably not the brightest question but I'm new and still trying to figure it out. Hope someone could help me out!

My friend you are on the right track and given that you have driven alot in NYC it looks like you are holding all the cards. You should inquire with other buisness or operations like yours, but just as a guideline. You are going to be undertaking all the risk in a dangerous, high traffic, demanding location. You need to confirm with other similar operations, take notes, highlight differences, sit down and write down what you are offering. Have a set price just for entering NYC. Most trucking co. have a couple hundred dollar bonus if you haul a NYC load...that is if the driver accepts it. Then find you a good friend that can direct you towards someone to legalize your policies and assure you of no libalities. Advertise and good luck...remember word of mouth is the best advertisment. And always know your work is a direct reflection upon you.:biggrin_25525:

    Thanks guys and Happy Thanksgiving!
I grew up in the area and I'm pretty comfortable driving a truck in NYC. I guess I'll figure out quick how the pricing works out but just wanted to see if someone could shed some light on it for me. I'm not fishing for free info just trying to sound some what educated when I start next week.

He said it was a 26 ft straight. One thing I'd do with my truck. I'd put a solid steel oilfield bumper on it and a wrap around bull bar. could save a hood. Have fun in the snow.
