I am currently looking for a job in San Diego. I have one year OTR exp. I just passed the tests and got finger printed for my X and T endorsements. It feels like the companies I've applied to just kind of have the attitude of "we don't hire 'dock bumpers.'" One driver manager I talked to actually said that, and the rest of them have that dismissive attitude. Are there any viable options for me? Thank you in advance.

Don't know any specifics, but I can tell you a lot of it is luck at being in the right place at the right time. Of course, how you interview has a lot to do with it too. Somebody hires folks who don't have local experience. But sometimes they will not be real quick to, until they have given time a chance to find someone who is locally experienced.

Local P & D requires an intimate knowledge of the area. If you don't have that, then you may be in for a long job search. Line haul, not so much.

Just keep knocking down doors and talking to people. Eventually, you will find something.

Being from a bit north of there (Inland Empire,) BUT having lived there for several years, I know that San D is a bit unique... border town, tucked into the corner of the country. With that said, your best bet is to ask the guys and girls you see driving day cabs, AND also any drivers you see in town, reguardless of day cab or long haul cab, wearing local team logo, as they MIGHT be local, or know something about it.

One more thing, check into the gas haulers, that is 99% local driver work... same thing, just ask the drivers you see doing the work.

    Chefbcp Thanks this.
