I saw the banner out front today that said Sysco Cleveland was ready to hire and I could go work there. Not totally sure I want to though I have heard mixed things about Sysco, and Sysco Cleveland I have heard is the worst Operating company of all the Sysco Operating companies to work for.

I am always looking at other options down the road and to have a back up, I don't want to work at the company I work for right now forever, not that they are bad, but they are not a long term plan either. I thought about gas tanker or LTL line haul, gas tanker was the direction I was going to point my self in after beer hauling something about it makes sense to me.

There are other food companies to like Lipari or Hillcrest Foods which is a local distributor here in Cleveland.

Food service is hard work. I did it for three years, lost about 30 pounds in the first month. If you cant handle hard and continous physical work, dont even apply. The good money kept me on that job, until i realized lots of drivers getting hurt all the time and new faces every couple weeks.

I worked for a major beverage company before food service and i didnt feel any similarity. Unless you are fit and kind of young, i wouldnt recommend you to jump in this ship. Not a long term option for truck drivers. If you are in fact young and fit, and you dont get scared easily, sysco is one of the best food service company out there, hand to hand with us foods.

All grocery and beverage companies are inside deliveries. You have to be really good at jackknife backing and making your trailer fit in places that most others don't feel comfortable to back into. Tough work breaking down pallets and carting them into the back of kitchens. Good luck.

Some routes dont even have pallet jacks. Boxes are floor loaded, and need to wheel them from the trailer with a ramp.

ramps are the majority, very little pallet jack work, unless you get some seniority..

id leave foodservice alone, too many other jobs that you wont grow to hate as much. stick out the winter with beer, then go get into a redimix cement job. pays about the same, but if the weather sucks, youre at the bar, not running up and down some greasy ramp! youre around cleveland, so i know the redimix guys do ok, they are all union....

    Mike,
Lapari is piece, stop, milage. They went that way about 3 years ago, switched from hourly. Most of the drivers in the Pittsburgh area say that they now make more getting paid that way. Just about every one of their drivers that I use to run into were happy with the company.

Now go an put that app in NHB!

Just sent my application into NHB again. I applied online, I might go in person though and give them one also later this week. I need to write a nice cover letter, weather they read it or not I don't know, but it is a nice try. I hope they don't hold it against me for seeking higher ground after only being at my current job oh by the time this is all said and done 7 months.

I don't know they want me to move faster, not that I am slow for heavens sake they have all of our times tracked anyhow and really do not have any specifics on that end, but I don't know I go as fast as I can, and not all of it is really my fault, but I don't appreciate to be told I'm not going fast enough. All I do all day long is worry about how fast I am going.

Everything I do I do for a reason some stops I go to earlier because it is easier for me and easier for the people at the stop. Also like all the grocery stores that have dock times that close at 2:00pm I get those out of the way early that way I can never miss the dock time, plus it is easier to park. Sometimes because we sell wine where I work and by the way I am never working for a company that sells wine again cases of mixed wine have been nothing, but a total headache and I can't stand it any more. Plus all this COD stuff not that food doesn't have COD, but it is not as prevalent from my understanding, plus the stops are better, tired of these dumpy gas stations and convenient stores although usually I don't have a problem with those, usually I get in and out of those alright, but you know I don't know I can't control the customers and all of that stuff and what makes these people that run my company think for one single minute that the customers care about my time, we clearly know that the customers do not after all they have to pay me so as far as they are concerned I can stand there forever.

That's how these companies operate they do one time study and that time study is supposed to stand for the next 10 years.
