Hello fellow Truckers this is my first post so please forgive me if I am in the wrong area. I am new to the Industry I have only been driving 3 months with CRST.
But I left that job to pursue another job cause I want local work and to see my family everyday. Now I know that can be difficult to do with little to no experience.

I am looking at U.S. Xpress on there Wal-Mart account. they said they will pay me 5000$ relocation to move to a different state. They also said I will be home everyday if i move within 40 miles of the city. I am also guaranteed 950$ a week minimum. But I will have to work 70 hours a week. How is it possible to work 70hrs in 5 days legally? If someone has done something like this please give me your experince with this. Were you able to actually see your family or be home to actually do something or did you just go home eat sleep shower then return to work. Thanks all for the advice.

14hrs a day times 5 is 70hrs. You're limit to 70hrs within 8 days. But looks like you'll be doing a reset every week

    Btw where are you located

I'd get the details on the relocation. They probably don't pay it straight away. I worked for USX for a few years as a driver on a dedicated account and It's not too bad but the pay is low considering the hours. Works out to a little over 13 an hour. I'd look at some other companies.

I'd use it for experience, or hang in there a little longer with CRST and go full LTL with UPS, Fed EX, ABF or the like. It kinda just sounds like LTL without the pay.

    RUN! OP

Tell US Xpress to pound sand. Then after they lose the wal-mart account to another low cost carrier or you get bumped, Then what? Moved for nothing out running OTR. Assume they will want a contract for that $5,000 investment. Now trapped.

They have enough Desk Jockeys to find lanes in Virginia.

Go Apply at JB Hunt. Near a rail yard? Go play with Containers @ Hourly rate.
Go Apply at any LTL. Make sure you have most of your endorsements.

You're just laterally moving from 1 crap company to another crap company. Impressive Cycle of Crap :biggrin_2559:

    Run OP.

Most local LTL jobs work you enough hours that you work, sleep, work, sleep etc until your days off. It is just the nature of the business. I enjoyed my years of local LTL, and enjoyed being home with my wife every day. But that doesn't mean a saw a lot of her during the work week. I worked for an outfit where we had weekends off, so that was good. But you get up and go to work at a designated time, (or when they call you in, depending on the outfit,) and you work until you are done.

Relocating for a trucking job is likely not a good idea. Unless there just flatly is no work available in your area. And it doesn't really matter who the company is, what they tell you before you go to work there, and what the reality of the job is, very well may be entirely different. They will always have some excuse, such as "oh, we did have that particular job open, but it was taken by a more senior driver," or even, "well we did have that route open, but we lost the account."

Trucking is the kind of job where you can pretty much find work just about anywhere. And there is NO perfect job, particularly in trucking.

CRST is not going to let you go early, they will hold you for the contracted time.

70 hours in 5 days is not a problem depending on how much on duty you log. don't count on a 950 guarantee, Relocation money is a signon bonus and is paid over several payment not all at once. Also dont count on being home every night. If you want to be home finish your gig at CRST and then simply go to work for a local company.

I agree with the others. Relocation is just a ploy to get driver's and like sign on bonuses, it may take a year to get that, and during that year, they can, and do, come up with all kinds of excuses why you aren't eligible. I guess I'd like to hear from someone that actually got their bonus. Like Big Don sez, there are plenty of trucking jobs that you won't have to relocate.
