You ever feel this way?

Was nervous when I started my second job...first day trainer picks me up and he was lets just say freshly hungover...tells me I'm driving...umm no ship dude. Nervous went right out the window. Boss calls towards the end of day tells trainer drug test came back and I am clear to drive. We laughed. ..good dude, trained me right.

 

I get nervous after filling out applications.

 

Know the feeling man. I transitioned from the military (where everything was completely structured and secure) to a civilian job where they make it up as they go along.

Congrats on the new gig. Being nervous is normal. It will keep you on your toes.

 

Nervous when starting a new job is normal, I think. Especially in this industry. We listen to the recruiters and other drivers, we do our due diligence (hopefully), yet there is still a feeling of "when does the other shoe drop"

After getting screwed by so many different carriers, we can get a little gun shy about starting a new job.

 

Sometimes being nervous helps out in weird ways.

Several years back. Went into a local scrap yard. First interaction with the office lady was very odd, filled out the application. The yard manager did a quick interview. The Vibe was really off. During the road test was thinking of ways to turn this job down, Was really nervous on ways to get out of this situation. Horrible equipment and odd interactions with the people.

Then it was like the holy grale of common sense hit me. Fail the road test on purpose, The guy who went out with me, pulled the yard manager into his office, i Grabbed the free coffee and drove away. Never did regret walking away from a answer. $10.75 hour wasn't worth a answer

 

I think that's pretty normal. When I started with my current company (first driving job)...it was definitely that way. Not only was there the question of "will I like the company and coworkers?... but there was also the "did I make the right decision quitting my prior field?" question.

 

My best trainer was a guy that literally slept the whole 2 weeks that I was with him. He was in the passenger seat with his chin buried into his chest snoring. I learned by doing not by instruction. Driving can only be learned by "doing". He woke up 2 weeks later and said "goog job, your ready"
