    Flat rate book for truck repair

    Hey, need some info..... seems to be a secret at Mack unless you already in and under the wrench........

    Know or guess : Labor hrs. for oil pump and all related change on E-7./ CH

    : Labor hrs for turbo R&R.........



    Doesn't have to be Mack either. Just need the book hours on each job.

    The book hours would be Mack specific and I don't have the book here with me. If they hit you higher than 10 hours for both, start asking questions and request book labor times in print. There could be variables, but both are pretty much standard labor operations.

    Gotcha Bender....just makin sure. Did turbo myself and shop charged me 68 hr x 5 on the oil pump so ok........ better than Mack for sure......

    i was quoted 1500 labor to R and R my turbo.

    one shop did the job in one hour.

    man that's a lot of moola for an hour labor.

    Looks like you came out very well and a good shop rate! I would guess the turbo at about 3 hrs, but sometimes broken studs or bolts can run the bill up.

    Yeah, I was worried on the manifold bolts. Took my time, used plenty of penetrating oil and 3/8 tools to minimize torque application. Found other hidden damage too like flattened lock washers, blown gaskets and a weak chg air hose. Even found a broke a/c comp support bracket. For some reason Mack decided they needed to hang the a/c comp way out in right field and this creates leverage or thrust, so they decided they needed a bracket to control this............had to be a reason even tho I can't see it.

    All better now....... I was wanting to close September and not look back ( a bad month ) so I needed to audit the bills before I box 'em.......

    It's a big plus when a guy does his own work, not only for the savings but in knowing It's condition in detail and adds a sense of pride when you're working the truck.

    I've found that some repair shops with these very reasonable labor rates often don't follow the labor manual closely. Not to worry, it's just a different way of doing business and it's good for both you and them.
