Mack E-7 questions.......

    My dog is getting on in years so I'm looking at options including a re-power which brings me here. Let me toss you what the Mack dealer told me today on re-power and if it's BS, chime in......

    (Note: I have a 98 E-7 with the Bosch injection pump on the side )

    Q: ( to dealer ) If I bought a re- mack engine I would want to do away with the Bosch pump to a later engine style that use the single injection modules and of course run a bit higher horse power. ( 50 to 100 more )

    A: You can't without changing the under hood wiring harness and the ECM and some other stuff.

    Q: Ok if you rebuilt mine then I would want you to increase the horse power to max capable of this design / cam.

    A: I don't think I can. I can only rebuild to your current hp because of emissions. But I don't have any emission eq. on the truck....still no, only your advertised hp.

    In my mind this guy was extremely uncooperative and basically told me he doesn't want my money.

    Whatcha think?

    Dealers.............If its not new, they don't want to know. Ask a fuel injection specialist first as he will be the one who will have to be in on it.

    Ouh man.... to change power you have to change engine ECM. It is located inside cab.... really torque and rpm are electronically limited.

    Is your E7 at max HP for those engines? Is been a while , but 460 sounds familiar ........ And what about clutch and trans..... The dealers love to wine about those limits .
    They are pretty uncooperative when it comes to HP increases... ....
    How about one of their reman crate engines ?


    I remember putting a washer into the puff limiter to add more bottom end..... On the early maxidines..... LoL

    I'm not sure, but I saw '99 Renault Magnum with 480 HP... Cant be sure was it with injection pump ore EUP engine.......

    I had a 97 with 454. If memory serves, it was a half-breed mechanical/electronic engine. An old school pump with servos for throttle, rack and timing. You can have it rebuilt as a 460, and take the pump to a Bosch shop and have it bumped ten percent. You need to have the pump checked at overhaul anyways.

    You can swap in a newer style motor, but I'm not sure if that's worth the hassle.

    I loved my dog, easy to work on, and reliable.

    new style engine is EUP. Totaly different engine control

    I would not swap to a etech style for hp. 1 blixxton box there pretty cheap and work on those older bosch pumps 30 percent more hp 2. some hotter injectors and 3. bigger turbo

    Blixxton box? Pretty cheap? really? I thought I lost mine a few months ago...and called dog......only one available in the US , in Phoenix and $4100 plus freight to Houston...... Is that cheap or do I need to look elsewhere?

    may be it is easy to find more powerfull ECM on JY) but I rechecked, 460 HP was the maximum for old V-Mack
