I think its still a 2 valve head. The dynatard is useless, hopefully it has a real Jacobs brake. There are literally millions of that engine around, used and on the road. Its the same engine as the 237hp, 285hp called the(300), 315hp called the(300+), 350hp. There the standard engine for most macks of that era, late 60s to 95, when they had to go to the E7 to get it to meet the emissions. They are also a mechanical injection pump. Makes it much easier to work on.

They were good for 65,000lbs or less work. My experience was with 6 triaxle dumps. Over the road may be better for them. The weight I was putting on them (80,000lbs) is what made there life short. Cheap and simple to rebuild. You are really not comparing the same thing when you talk about a 3406. A comparable engine would be an L10, M11 Cummins, 11L, or 12L Detroit, 3306. The 3406 is 2 or more liters larger. But again right application is everything. I know when they run right they are great on fuel, and on the east coast the parts are plentiful.

those are good motor's it will have a 4 valve head only e7 has 1/2" more stroke and wet style liners only major differance e6 350 would have a bigger pump, injectors and turbo and will run with a 425 B model cat
