Hello Everyone, Back in 2012 we were forced to update our fleet, like a lot of people we ran our trucks in the ground and patched and done all we could to make ends meet during that 2004 to 2009 range and went a few years and didn't update and wound up with a bunch of trucks in the 800-900k range, We met with all the truck guys from every company and decided to Demo their truck, they all did the same run(loaded 45k both ways) from Southeast to Denver CO and back down to Southern AL, Pete's w Paccar( 6.45mpg), KW w Paccar(6.6mpg), Freightliner DD15(6.2) and Mack Pinnacle w Mack Engine w MDrive Automatic(6.7mpg) and we tried Volvo a week w automatic ( 6.8), I personally liked the KW 660 w Paccar Engine, but at the last minute Mack Came in and Beat everyone and we went with them because of the MDrive Automatics and their best 5yr 500k warranty major componets they offered, 1 yr warranty on the lil stuff, 2 year 250k warranty on the medium stuff, so we went with the bulldogs

SO, my question is, We are 2 years in with them, miles are in the 250 to 300k range on them, here are the pros and cons, the pros are fuel mileage and drivers love the comfort and the automatics trannys in the mack and the ride,i love driving them still and to me its still one of the best looking trucks on the road, but good looks aren't going to make you money,,,,cons are sensor problems every trip, check engine lights stay on ( if we stopped everytime a engine light was on we would get no where), regen problems ALL the time, warranty now not wanting to cover these regen and sensor problems since they are over 250k range which are costly, getting 50-70kmiles worth of wear on steer tires after getting all the alignments done,,,,,so with that said, I guess my question is does anyone have any opinions or stories on the 3rd or 4th year or any year actually of what to expect on these newer mack Pinnacles, Thank You

We have 20 of the 2012/2013 CXU and I liked Mack's before these, always Derate and regen problems, even if you have the 500,000 warranty it still cost money every time they sit in the shop for weeks, Had one 2013 that was in three Mack shops in two months and was only on the road for 3,000 miles that amount of time. These trucks do like to go thru steer tires no matter what we have done to the front end. Also had a lot of issues with sensor having oil seep thru and getting into the wiring. One truck cost us 5k for new wiring because my powers above didn't think we should waste the money for the ext. warranty . Just paid another 10k bill for the third truck to get a egr cooler, egr valve replaced. All this with trucks under 325k miles. Good luck , and if you decide you need some extra trucks for a back up I would be glad to let some go.

thanks for the reply ando, I was starting to think maybe we was the only one cursed with bad luck on these things, the down time is what is bad, you get in a shop somewhere 400 miles away that they don't know you, you better be ready to wait a day or even days because there is 4-5 macks or Volvo trucks ahead of you,,,Oh and not to mention injectors and injector cups, fan clutches, DPF system, oil pressure sensors, we have a 500 dollar deductible on warranty claims, sometimes its been great to have sometimes its been piddly stuff but still out 500 bucks, the trucks when running will get the fuel mileage like promised, its just keeping them running, they have a lot of issues going on and give you more problems than any truck with 250k on it should,we have gotten to know many mack service guys all over the country from Sioux falls to Madison wi to OKC and they have all said these 2012 and 2013 models have been a nightmare,,,i keep waiting for the"kinks" to be worked out like promised,,,,,i hope its soon!

We are an all Mack fleet, 15 trucks ranging in age from 2000 CH daycabs to 3 2015 CXU daycabs that are just arriving, I just came out of 2009 CXU Pinnacle sleeper, MP8, Eaton Auto shift. Seems like the first couple of years, no DPF related issues, but the last 18 mos., a couple of little issues, mostly with the EGR. Rather than take them in for service, we try to do all our own repairs. When I came out of it, the truck had 588K, the company plans to refurbish it and keep it around as a spare. As for tires, mine used to eat steers every 15k in the first 2 yrs, alignments, balancers, nothing helped. Turned out to be an out of round hub assembly. Once that was replaced, I had no problem doing 60K on steers, 80K on drives. Usually every PM, the boss greases everything, rotates the steers and drives, beats me with a broom if I don't check my air pressure twice a week. Usually somewhere between late August and early October I'd get all new rubber.

We had the same problem with the injector cups, we fought with Mack like crazy, they wanted $6,000 to replace everything, but we'd been complaining for a couple years about the same problem, kept written records. Every time the truck went in for fueling problems, they would blame some other part, when it finally came around to being the injector cups, they wanted $6,000, we fought them, got them to replace them at cost, and split it with us because we could show time after time of the same complaint with their inability to repair it.

We have 3 2013 CXU's (2 daycabs and a sleeper), all 3 have under 200K, knock on wood, no major engine issues. Just some little stupid stuff. So far my 2014 CXU (all Mack drive line with M-drive) hasn't had engine issues, of course I only have 6,500 miles on it. It's at the dealer for a bad brake drum and door that don't seal properly. My only driveline issue is a random problem with the grade gripper, that seems to be related to the cold temps, Mack is going to check it out as well.

Hub style and type almost always seems to be the major deal with how a particular truck likes or hates steer tires. Since I started spec'ing Conmet Preset Plus hubs on steer axles, tires lasting long time. 210,000 on first set, 208,000 on this set and not getting changed for a while, probably in the fall. Still 10/32 tread on them with no uneven wear, rotated every 50K miles.
