Never saw or heard of it and my minds eye cannot see it either. Wonder if shaft bolts were over tightened and stretched or wrong ones. It could possibly be seen on the ones that are not broken or compare length to new ones. Could the cam damage have been a work already in progress? If bolts broke one by one possibly engine ran for a period of time with excessive valve clearance. Clearance allowed lifter to slap or skip on cam with resulting damage. Or if clearance was extreme possibly rim of push rod cup contacted bottom of adjusting screw. This could result in a valve hitting a piston during valve overlap and crashing the cam and lifter. Since you own an E7 you probably already know the older ones had lots of cam problems. I believe that was pretty well worked out long before 07 but they probably have a low tolerance for things like incorrect adjustments. Had any work done lately?

Excuse me mackjack: Just had a book out looking for something for someone else and found service bulletin SB213043. It had to be part of a cam or engine kit because it is just stuck in the book.
Use revised rocker shaft mounting bolt 416GC23M and torque to 45lb-ft.
