Feedback on Marten Transport 2015?

I worked there 4 and a half years. They will run you 10 to 14 days and give you 1 or 2 days off. Alot of the time they want you back in the seat after a 34 hr restart. Alot of overnite runs and middle of the night del. You will go to wm dc's alot. And tight produce loads. 2500 miles a week was about average for me. I like there detention pay and nice equipment. I was takeing home about $800 week after medical ins, dental, etc. I left em' 2 years ago.

 

Steer clear unless you like to sit around. All places I worked at pays by mile, so if you cant get 3000 miles plus...RUN

 

Time off sort of depends on where you live. The biggest factor will be your fleet manager. Some let you take off as much as you want. Others will not. They have a dedicated account running dry vans for Transplace which will get you miles and home time you want. It is managed by Ben. I've been with Marten 3 yrs.

 

Marten pays you for your time. You drive. You get paid miles. You sit, through no fault of your own, you get paid detention/layover/average-daily-pay. I know drivers that rake in $1000 a week from sitting. One of my Marten friends jokingly say "Did you get your welfare Po yet?"!!! Marten is serious about the value of a driver's time. Some dispatchers are tight-wads about it, but most follow the rules.

Marten is ok but i didnt get much hometime. Stay out 10 - 14 days and get 34 hrs off. Then back in the seat.

 

A friend of mine is in his second year with Marten and from what I gather, it's about average. Not spectacular, but not horrible either. The equipment is late model, well maintained and the miles are pretty good.

His biggest complaint is with their crazy policy regarding hometime. Whenever you want more than three or four days off, you are told to clean out your truck and they will assign you a new one when you return. I have never heard of a company with such a policy. Don't they understand that the truck is a driver's home as well as his or her work space and most drivers have lots more than just a duffle bag of clothes on the truck with them? He's got two weeks of vacation coming to him this year and he's afraid to take more than three days off, lest he lose his truck.

Now I don't know if this is company wide, or just at his home terminal (which is an orientation terminal and they always have new hires needing trucks). And I wonder if the folks in Mondovi have to clean out their cubicles when they take more than three days off and they get a new cube assigned to them when they return?

I would be curious to know if other Marten drivers have had this experience. I know for a fact my friend has had to go thru this and I have met a couple of other drivers when I stopped by his terminal that were going thru it as well, but perhaps it is limited to this terminal.

 

It is true. Although if you take time off around the holidays or in the summer when other drivers are taking vacations you may get your truck back. But you still have to clean it out.

 

The home time policy for trucks depends on if your regional or otr. Most regional drivers if they are taking more than 4 days will need to clean out their trucks. Where me I'm otr and can keep my truck at home for 7 days before Marten says anything to me.
